Why doesn't the Tactix 7 Pro Ballistic Sapphire have ECG?

I thought this is the Garmin flagship, if it isn't which watch is? Why wouldn't Garmin include this highly desirable feature in a $1,600.00 watch? What does the watch lose if it gains the ECG capability?

I would like someone who knows to answer both questions, please.

  • My tactix 7 AMOLED has ECG - are you sure yours does not?

Have you installed the ECG App?

  • Other forum posts indicate that the Tactix ballistic was specifically not given the hardware for the ECG. If you look at the back on yours, you'll see 4 leds, mine only has 2. I looked at all of the apps available, and the ECG app isn't there. I feel like this is a bait and switch, TBH. The Tactix Ballistic was promoted as the same as the Fenix 7 pro sapphire with extra apps, but they installed poor LED hardware which makes the ECG impossible. So, I'm just asking what the trade-off was.

  • Yes, you are right - sorry for the confusion.  It appears the only current tactix model to have ECG is the tactix 7 AMOLED.

    My mistake.

The Marq series of watches...and they don't have the hardware for ECG either.

  • A fact they left off the marketing when they added ECG to the Tactix line.

  • I think Garmin misunderstands the needs of their customers who are willing to lay out over $1,500.00 for a watch. I guarantee most of us are either in the game, or are established enough to afford this watch.

  • They also don't have red-shift mode. WTF?

Probably because the watches hardware spec was locked in prior to the Fenix 7 Pro commencing development. It's normally how these things work. The team probably slipped their launch date and it likely came out later than they wanted.

These questions can really only be answered by a Garmin Product Manager and surprise, they don't often frequent the forums to answer to people's angsty posts.

Omfg. This is going to cost lives! Blood on their hands etc. **Commences hyperventilation**

Dunno bro. The only dudes I've seen wear a Tactix are in their mid 30s, have a large disposable income, a beer gut and the closest to the game they get is a paintball match with the boys every so often. The dudes that I know who are in the various services wear an Apple Watch, Fenix or whatever their preference is. Not sure what they wear when deployed but most don't seem to be using their watch as their primary source of navigation.

  • I paid for a watch that was advertised with a software functionality that they didn't include. Nobody will die, but why would they falsely advertise and not deliver a feature? Perhaps you enjoy being walked over by diminishing the impact of each incident, but it has a cost, which here is measured in dollars.
