Fenix 7x PRO intensity minutes wrong

Hi,

it seams, that my Fenix 7x pro calculates the intensity minuts wrongly:

In my today's hike it recorded:

The setting is on "use HR zones" and selected are zones 3 & 4.
If I look at the "time in zones" graph of the activity I get:

So should be ~24min normal + 12min high => total of 48 min, not 29 as shown.

Any idea on what is going wrong here?

    Other Requirements

Some Garmin devices require you to reach or exceed 10 consecutive minutes where your step count or heart rate is elevated above the threshold considered moderate intensity. Once you reach and exceed that time threshold, the amount of credit will increase by 10 minutes and will continue to accrue if you remain in your moderate or vigorous zones. Performing a vigorous activity resulting in a higher heart rate can double your intensity minutes, allowing you to meet your weekly goal faster. Some newer devices do not have the 10 minute requirement and will detect any intensity minutes earned regardless of duration.

    Types of Intensity

The level at which a person will receive credit for intensity minutes can vary based on a variety of factors. Below are some general guidelines on the type of intensity measured.

    • Moderate Intensity: You can hold a conversation but not sing while exercising.

    • Vigorous Intensity: You can only speak a few words between breaths while exercising. Vigorous intensity minutes will only be recorded when heart rate data is available.

  • Thank you for the hint, but the Fenix 7x Pro is listed there with the "devices that do not require a 10 minnute threshold". So that should not be the reason.

Hard to tell without seeing the detailed activity data, but there can be a significant difference between IM and Zone times, even when you use a device not requiring the 10 minutes interval. That's because the current minute won't be accounted as an IM if it is not completed. It means if you stay 55 seconds in Z3, then the HR drops back to Z2, the IMs won't be incremented (while HR zones will). When the HR rises back to Z3 later again, the counter starts from 0 seconds. In other words, although the 10 minutes continuous requirement is no more used at recent models (which I actually find wrong), you still have to sustain at least 60 continuous second in the concerned HR zone. In other words, the requirement of 10 continuous minutes over the threshold was in fact just replaced with 1 minute, not really removed entirely, although it may look so, when reading  the documentation.

So, IMs indeed are what their name suggests - Intensity Minutes, it means the sum of all minutes spent in the intensive zone, not the total time spent in the intensive zone converted to minutes!

Yeah, my bad. So analyze the HR graph and manually count the full minutes above the threshold you set, as has already suggested. Simply adding up the total times of the HR zones isn't the correct way.
