Fēnix 7 SS NOT monitoring overnight

Hi all,

Upgraded from a 5 to a 7 last week, was really enjoying the upgrade until one night which coincidentally was the same night I updated to the new software! the optical sensor has just stopped working in my sleep it will either turn off at the point of me falling asleep or stop working half way through the night. It only turns back on when I physically lift the watch.

This is messing up all my training metrics which is why I wanted the upgrade See no evil

No battery saver on and I've tried the watch with different tightness on my wrist!

Any suggestions would be great thanks as it's driving me mad

Thanks

  • Hello @Ste

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. There are a couple troubleshooting steps I would recommend trying.

    • Have you confirm battery save is off specifically "During Sleep" mode? Menu, System, Sleep Mode, Battery Saver.
    • Try toggling the HR sensor off in the watch menu, then on again. Menu, Sensors and Access, Wrist HR.
    • Try a hard reset on the watch. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.
    • Confirm the watch is showing the sensor software versions. Menu, System, About, Scroll down. Locate Sensor Hub, WHR and BMX versions. If any of these are showing 0.00, you may want to try reinstalling the SW version with these steps:

    1. Hold the menu button
    2. Select System
    3. Select About
    4. Press the top left Light Button 8 times
    5. Scroll down and select the option to reinstall the software

If this issue continues, I would recommend reaching out to Garmin Support.

  • No, there isn’t any battery saver that I can see. Last night it recorded my sleep perfectly even though I was in sleep mode all night. I’ll just leave it as it is and I’ve set up a hotkey to toggle it so I can turn it off when I’m on nights.

You seem to be confusing something. Sleep mode is not a sleep detection. It is just a changed behavior of the watch in terms of things like display illumination etc.

There is no hotkey to start or stop sleep DETECTION.
