All music/podcast apps unable to sync

I used to use Spotify on my Fenix 7 Pro. It was always hit or miss, but maybe 75% of the time I could get it to download a podcast and I could listen on my run. Within the last few months, downloading podcasts is permanently broken. It will start to download a podcast, get to around 10 or 15 percent, and then hang. I have to cancel the download.

I also tried Amazon music and Playrun apps, in case it was a problem specific to Spotify. All apps have the same problem. They will start a download, but it always hangs early in the download. Now I'm back to carrying my cell phone on runs to be able to listen to podcasts, which was exactly what I bought the Fenix 7 to avoid.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps multiple times. I've tried power cycling the watch. An update has installed since this problem appeared, so there has even been an OS upgrade in there as well.

  • After a bunch of research, it looks like I might be having issues related the problems with the recent 17.x versions. I'm going to try to downgrade to 16.22 to see if that fixes my problems. I'll report back here with my results.

  • Although I had a few moments where I was holding my breath, downgrading to 16.22 resolved my music/podcast download issue. My issue was definitely caused by whatever is broken with 17.x. Unfortunately from my experience with close to four or five Garmin devices over the past 15 years, WiFi is always problematic for them. At least my Fenix is back to its previous state of working most of the time, which is really the best WiFi performance I've ever gotten from a Garmin device.

  • My solution for my Epix was to get back to WPA2 in my WLAN.

    WPA3 did not work.

    Unbelievable... but true.

  • I have the same problem for months. I posted here in the forums, and some Garmin admin connected it to the known wifi issue. No fix since then, can't use music for months already.

  • I'm on the latest firmware and I'm still having the same issue. It seems to come down to Wi-Fi authentication. The watch is absolutely fine with access points with no authentication configured, but seemingly stalls when downloading on any access point with WPA 2 auth.

Really hoping that Garmin can fix this issue in the very near future, because it's not been a problem for the majority of my watchers life and it's something that many of us rely on to get our favourite music / podcasts onto the device. Really a key selling feature that hasn't worked well for months now.
