So i have this workout routine i've been doing for a few years, two times a week very rigorously, and bought a fenix 7 pro ss this winter.
I just figured out there's a lot of workouts and trainings pre programmed in the watch but i wanted to prepare my own, which here it is by the way:
i tried to see how my watch would react or guide me and here's my thoughts:
Preparation : having more than 1000 different exercise, but no image of those or animation or anything except the targeted muscles (btw, it's visible only AFTER saving your workout), makes the whole preparing of your training a real pain.... you have to check each and every exercise name by going to google and check what it does, hoping that's the one you do. but i took the time, and managed to find the names corresponding to my exercice (i think).
Working out : once working out that's where it gets worse. I set timers of 1min rest between most of my series and/or reps, but on the watch, once you have done this exercise and start the rest timer, you are showed not the timer but the exercise list.... for i don't know what reason. So i have to push the up button like 5 to 10 times to get to see my timer... it makes no sense.
Also: the watch catches and records hand movement and then reps quite accurately for exercises that use hands. But for those who don't, like, say, single leg hip raise, my hands are lying on the ground so when i'm done my series, the watch records that i have made exactly 0 reps.... while i just did 80. This doesn't work. sometimes i'm offered to change the amount of reps effectively done, but it happens once or twice per workout only, i don't know why. I tried disabling "auto reps counter" in the settings, thinking this would auto set the amount of reps to the pre recorded amount, but all i have are dashes, so i don't know if, in the calories burned, and effort spent, the watch counts it as 0 or as 80 reps.
All in all, it's really a pain and you can feel garmin puts most its efforts in the cardio and cardio sports more than strength sports, which is ok i guess, the watch is not sold as a workout watch but more adventure and or running tool.
It's just that i figured, if the watch can do it, it would be nice that it could do it well, and not half assed like it's currently as it's pretty useless and i feel far better off by just not using my watch when working out for anything else than timer like i've done for the last 6 years.
It's sad because i feel it's some small things that would make this a true workout companion:
1: make the exercises selection more efficient by showing what each name does.
2: allow an option to disable auto reps count and set it to predefined amount instead, or even better, have this option for exercises that don't use had motion.... so the watch would catch reps during exercises that allow hand movement for detection, but would auto set max reps (editable after the reps serie) for those who dont.
3: when you done your series and activate the timer, just...show the timer... why would i want to seee my exercise list details?
