Fenix 7 Pro SS buttons stopped working after 2 sea swims

So mu second Fenix 7 Pro SS broke after 2 sea swims (my first one broke also after a sea swim, even though I regularly rinsed it with fresh water.. got it exchanged for the new one). I had it for 3 weeks only..

Does this happen with all Fenix 7 Pro watches, or am I just really unlucky?

Should I consider switching to a different watch/brand? I need my watch for swimming, running and biking.

  • If this is 10ATM rating per their site, this shouldn't matter, right? The waterproof standards are about water saying out. If there isn't a waterproof seal, no amount of rinsing and washing later will help. If the issue is the buttons getting physically stuck with salt/grit, then it may help, but that also seems like a design flaw.

I'm not suggesting not rinsing off salt, I do that every time. Last week I was doing something similar without locking the buttons first and it freaked out and needed a reset. I think that was from water on the touch screen.

I do think there is a problem with these buttons that I hope is resolved in the future. I've had 4 fail. Support is great, but for the cost, it is still a big hassle and makes me wonder if they are worth it.

  • I take mine in the shower with me, soap it up and click the buttons a few times whilst the water is running over it

Detergent and Soap Break Surface Tension

Detergent molecules' two ends make it able to break through the surface tension of water. The end of the detergent molecule which attaches to fat (grease) repels water molecules. It is known as hydrophobic, meaning "water fearing." By attempting to move away from the water molecules, the hydrophobic ends of the detergent molecules push up to the surface. This weakens the hydrogen bonds holding the water molecules together at the surface. The result is a break in the surface tension of the water.“

  • Got my 5th watch. After 16 days of using it for sea/pool swimming Up/Menu button started to act out again.. It's sorta working, it doesn't register all button presses which is annoying...

I've been taking care of this watch by rincing it out after all my swims, taking especial care not to press any button while it's submerged.

I don't know what else to do.. Even though the support is always great, I'm sick and tred of going to them again..

I'm gonna keep this updated if I get my 6th watch.

  • Same first signs with back button on my second Fenix 7 changed last September 2023 after 8 months of use.

I have a feeling that at the end of summer I will have to return it again...

  • hey, did your 6th watch last longer for your? or you are still in the loop?
