Bug with removing App from favorites

Hey everyone,

I believe I've found a bug with my Garmin watch, or maybe I'm not using it correctly. Here's the issue I'm facing:

I added "Triathlon" to my favorites. Later, I decided to remove it from favorites, so I held the "menu" button on my favorites page and saw three options: "Remove from favorites," "Remove app from list," and "Remove app from device".

I chose "Remove from favorites," but it only allowed me to change the activity's position, similar to "reorder app."

Next, I went to my favorites again and for "Triathlon" I selected "Remove app from list," which removed it from my favorites. However, when I checked all activities, "Triathlon" was still there but named "Triathlon(2)".

I repeated the process: added "Triathlon(2)" to favorites and chose "Remove app from list" again. It was removed from favorites, but now I have "Triathlon(3)" in the all activities list. If I keep doing it, the numbers keep increasing.

When I tried to rename "Triathlon(3)" back to "Triathlon," I received an error stating there's already an activity with that name, although I can't find it anywhere.

I didn't use "Remove app from device" because I'm afraid I might lose the Triathlon app permanently.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to recover the original "Triathlon" app without the numbers at the end?

Do you have the same behavior when using the "remove from favorites " option, where it only allows you to reorder the activity?

  • This has nothing to do with it. Possibly a bot account

  • Hey everyone,

I haven't received any replies yet, but I have gathered more information on the issue.

    Here's what's happening:

    1. When the original "Triathlon" activity is added to favorites and you choose "Remove app from list," it disappears from favorites but also moves from the "Multisport" group to the "Running" group.
    2. A copy of the "Triathlon" activity is then created under the "Multisport" group and is renamed "Triathlon(2)."
    3. If you add "Triathlon(2)" to favorites and remove it using "Remove app from list," it also moves under "Running," and another copy is created under "Multisport," named "Triathlon(3)."

Additionally, I noticed the original activity has only two options: "Remove from favorites" and "Remove app from list." The newly created "Triathlon(x)" activities have a third option: "Delete from device." Using this option allows you to delete all the copies until you reach "Triathlon(2)," which cannot be deleted.

This seems like a bug. Can anyone from Garmin look into this?

  • Can anyone from Garmin look into this

Unlikely unless you contact them directly. Have you done that?

  • Not so far.
I wanted to see if it was a general FW problem or if it is something specific from my watch.

  • Hello @Vini

So I was able to reproduce this concern. And this behavior is by design.

    1. You activities list is split into 2 sections. Favorites at the top. And non-Favorites at the bottom. When you are selecting to remove from Favorites, you are moving this to the bottom section. This will appear along with other non-favorites (usually items likes Navigate, Expedition, Map Manager etc).
    2. When you select to Remove from App List, this is removing it from this app menu. And adding this back to the Add menu. Triathlon by default appears under the Run category. So this will return to the Run activity menu.
    3. Since Triathlon is already listed under Run activity, Triathlon 2 is listed under the multisport category.
    4. The only time Delete from device will appear as an option is if this is a duplicate activity. Since Triathlon is listed under Run and Multisport, these will always appear in the Add list as Triathlon and Triathlon 2.

So if you are just wanting to ensure Triathlon does not appear in your app list, select to Remove from Favorites, then Remove from app list. If you have duplicates, select Delete from Device. This will ensure the Triathlon and Triathlon 2 will be the only ones of these, and they will only appear in the Add list.

  • Oh, OK.
So not a bug at all.
Thanks for the info, I am glad you could reproduce it, this clarify everything.

  • It doesn't add it back to the Add menu! I can't readd any activities removed from the list on the Fenix Pro!

  • Remove from app list doesn't readd it to the add menu! I have found no way to bring it back and need to factory reset Disappointed
