Quatix 7 reboot loops, start/stop button failing after 17.23 update

For 2 weeks now my Quatix 7 is a mess. Starting the 17.23 update the 'Man Over Board' functionality was activated continuously with the start/stop button not responding.

Only way to stop it was through the touch screen, just to see it start again a minute later. All other functionality under the start/stop button became unusable which are the functions

I basically have the watch for....! Reset / reboot / back to factory settings - tried all - successfull booting takes sometimes 2 days of trying and depending on the 'mood' of the watch provides less or more functionality but never all. I desperately want to roll back to previous firmware through upload from my PC (OTA does not support roll back?) however the support forum does not seem to provide downloadable firmware of recent period.. I am in the BETA program already

Anyone knows of a downloadable firmware link to sort this? I am getting slightly frustrated here..

  • Hello @EH

I am sorry to hear the watch is not working. If this is in a loop, it can indicate one or more of the buttons is sticking. For this, I would recommend to first try cleaning the buttons with these steps:

    1. Submerge the watch in warm/clean water for 10 minutes.
    2. Remove the watch from the water.
    3. Press the buttons repeatedly.

If needed, try the reset again with these steps:

If this continues, I would recommend reaching out to Garmin Product Support.

  • Hi thanks for the proposed actions too since my issue, I tried these with only partial success:

cleaning of button - no change

reset with the 3 buttons successfully took it out of the frozen mode, at least I can see the time again. The start/stop button however still does not respond when the watch is switched on.
Restarting the watch in the normal way still brings it back into a frozen state (just the logo screen appears) until the battery drains completely or the 3-button reset is applied again.

Noting that the start/stop button is needed when resetting, it seems logical that it does work when the watch is switched off and just stops working once the software is loaded..

thus bringing me back to my initial question; how to roll back the software to previous version when all was well and fine. I would very much like to explore this option before sending it to the vendor for service as it was an online purchase and for sure will take ages to have it back..

@EH What did Garmin Product Support say when you called and talked with them?

  • Hi, thanks for your reply.

Support said to have it replaced, it will most certainly resolve the issue so will go ahead with that.

Still, generally speaking it would have been nice to be able to simply roll-back an update - if not alone to try out 'simple solutions' before resorting to the product support team.

  • I am having a very similar issue with my Quatix 7 - in my case i was body surfing which I have done countless times before- the top right button stopped working and the functions have gone all wonky, at one point it would not turn on any more (after booting and stopping several times over the course of several days. It finally stopped working and responding to anything. I just tried the three button boot which worked. Now trying the soak technique recommended to see if i can get the top right button back. I use it for sailing basketball and riding and this is the first time i have had a problem with it, but basically unusable right now….
