My Fenix 7X pro solar will not download topoactive maps

I have tried multiple times to download topoactive maps for Europe, sometime the download gets as far as 95 percent ,next time I look it’s at maybe 45% .

This has been going on for days,so I just gave up,I’m from Ireland and I bought the watch in USA maybe that is the problem , anybody any idea what may be wrong?

  • See what I posted below.

Express on the whole is the best way to do this. Its quicker

  • Also, by connecting the watch to the computer, you can download and add extra maps - there's a plethora of extra free maps out there. Some are better at outdoors than others.

There's also overlays available - like one that shows all UK rights of way

  • I have found the answer!!!!

I rang Garmin and they were really helpful.

so having deleted a base map as Garmin referred to it, I found by map manager that it would fail to download right at the last minute and I did see that others recommended doing it via Garmin express.

i didn’t have the option to do this on Garmin express .

it was resolved by uninstalling Garmin express and reinstalling. I then found I could install the topoactive map of Europe.

i then realised it was a different map as in, a different area of Europe.

on map details in garmin express you can change region to the area of choice.

    Resolved

  • Perfect, thanks for all your help, im on it. Still think Garmin should make this a bit clearer, why are they pushing us down the route of using Map manager on the watch..

  • thanks for the update, Im downloading it right now, hopefully i will go from being a grumpy auld man to a happy trail runner. Have a big race coming up in a few weeks so was getting a bit stressed!.

  • In future, I'd say dont bother with map manager - its a bit of a slave to the wifi connection and any idiosyncrasies there  cause issues.

The other advantage of Express is that - for Europe anyway, rather than having to download the WHOLE Topoactive Europe (12gb) you can split it into West, Central or East (8gb - they overlap coverage) - which means you can save a few gb

  • Let me know if it works!

I did notice that my garmin express firmware did change to version 7.22.1.0 and it was 6 something before.

  • Worked fantastic, was completed in 24 min, what a relief. So glad I posted on the forum!

    thanks for the help Grinning

  • glad it worked.

frustrating why you have to do it through garmin express as the watch has the capability to do it through a WiFi signal, but fails everytime.

i hope you have the region of map you need also.

i had to change mine to my area of Europe but it’s all good now.

  • Hi, I started using the Express method to download Europe topographic maps. I selected region West and loaded it on the Fenix. Then I changed the region to Central and loaded it on the Fenix. However, the West was gone. It seems with this method you cannot have more then 1 region.
The Map Manager on the Fenix seems to download Europe complete but this leads to the error that at 95% download progress it starts at around 43 again and this repeats itself, as was already mentioned in this thread.

Am I doing something wrong or is it a setting in Express or Fenix?
I use the Fenix 7 Pros solar build 17.28 and Garmin Express 7.22.1.0 (both the most recent)

Thanks in advance for an answer.
