tactix 7 pro 17.23 updated - still crash/rebooting

Just managed to download and install 17.23 firmware using WiFi connection from my tactix 7 pro, but crashed/rebooted 10min after the installation.

(Customer support assured 17.23 should solve this but apparently not)

Don't know what to do with this watch anymore... Anyone still experiencing the crash/reboot issue after the upgrade to 17.23 software?

Software version 17.23 just became available 2 days ago on Garmin Express for my tactix 7 AMOLED.  I updated (with caution due to all the complaints about problems with this update) 2 days ago from Software Version 16.22 by connecting to my computer and downloading using Garmin Express.

Long story short - no problems.

If you are still having any issues with your tactix 7 Pro, you may want to check that all the System info is as follows (16.22 to 17.23 updates highlighted with BOLD Underline):

I noticed after disconnecting from the computer that the update took over 8 minutes to complete.  I could see the temptation to start pressing buttons during this update because it looked like the watch was dead (blank screen), but I just waited and the update continued without problems.

After the update was thoroughly complete, I hooked up to Garmin Express on my computer and sync'd again - just to make sure all was OK.  I noticed that during this sync progress appeared "stuck" at about 70% progress, but again, I just waited a minute or two and the sync successfully completed.

Maybe this will help others who experienced problems with their updates.  It pays to be patient during the process.

  • after Factory Reset - still the same problem. Garmin fix it please. Can't search for updates by wlan. And the "GLANCE watch face" don't work too.

My Glance watch face is working well - no problem with Software Version 17.23 on my tactix 7 AMOLED.

  • Same here. No everyday exercices, laggs when browsing calendar widget.

  • Please check now for updates from watch via WiFi . On my Fenix 7 pro solar devitlce this action freeze completely the device

I never update over Wi-Fi, too many chances of errors; but when I just checked on the watch, the Wi-Fi sync went through successfully and I was advised my software is up to date.

  • I don't really understand how gaijin should deserve a minus rating for this statement. (tried to rectify it though ;-))

While I decided not to upgrade to 17.xx b/o I find the risk way to high & at the moment being quite happy with 15.77. But IF I do upgrades I always do it by GE. As Gaijin said: less margin of possible problems, you just eliminate some sources of possible problems. I'd strongly recommend to do it that way too. No matter what version though.

Oops, sorry. That was me. But that was a mistake. Of course I wanted to upvote his statement. Obviously I mistyped on the small smartphone screen. I've corrected it now.
I myself have deactivated automatic updates and only update via GE.

  • Hi gaijin thanks for the experience feedback. Very helpful and makes me consider going for the update.
One more question, is "automatic" power mode selection working when you launch an activity, or is it still broken from the beta ? Thanks :)

  • @Bluefish: Thumbsup

@all victims of those reboots, crashes and so on: I 'd strongly recommend to consider gaijins earlier post with the versions. This a due step of diagnosis indeed. Also: If there should be any mismatch to gaijins working device easy help might be possible by reinstalling the firmware. Btw.: Knowledge like that would help all experienced and knowing customers here to learn how to improve in doing what would be Garmins job.

Btw.: An easy way for Garmin to take pressure from the boiler would be to just start and officially support the way to downgrade ALL systems if customer feels that the new version is in fact - well, errgh - not an improvement. Low hanging fruits imho, I don't understand why they are so touchy with that. Would reduce the workload for the freelancing supporters here tremendously.  Wink

My tactix 7 AMOLED is not eligible for participation in the Beta program (no loss as far as I'm concerned) so I am not familiar with the fault you are asking about there.  Further, I am a bit confused about the problem in general due to many conflicting and confusing posts about the subject.

What I can tell you is what I am seeing now with Software Version 17.23 which is, as far as I know, no different from what I have always experienced.  Using the Walk Activity as an example:

My System setting for Satellites is Auto Select:

MENU > System > Satellites > Auto Select

My Walk Activity Setting for Power Mode is Extended:

MENU > Activities and Apps > Walk > Walk Settings > Power Mode > Default Mode > Extended

Note: The only Power Modes available for the walk Activity are Normal, Extended, Max Battery, Max Accuracy, and Jacket Mode. There is no "automatic" power mode option available.

When I have the Walk Activity active and check the status of the Power Mode is Extended - just as I had set it:

Hold Back button for Watchface > MENU > Current Activity > Power Mode > Default Mode > Extended

If this does not capture the error scenario you are asking about, please let me know what you would like to see for System Satellite and Activity Power Mode settings in order to duplicate what you are asking about.
