Fenix 7 Pro - START button protector wear

Bought the watch in middle of March 2024, and the START button "protectors thingy" orange color already started to wear off on the edges.

I'm a long time Garmin customer, but this bums me out at the 600 EUR price point.

Anyone else seeing this?

  • Is it wear or something that will wash off - My E2 is 18 months old and the yellow is stil as good as ever - check if a cotton wool bud removes a residue ?

  • I bash mine on things as well and it's looking pretty scuffed too. It's a Garmin and not a Rolex though and the value is in the functionality. Its not something we're handing down through generations (if you do, then judgement from me). You'll buy another in a couple of years and that too will be summarily smashed against more rocks. It's just the way it is when you're active.

  • Unfortunately it does not wash off.

  • Although I agree with you on the not handing down to generations stuff, the "it's gonna get more banged up down the road anyway" part is still just and excuse for inferior quality.

Mine has unfortunately not seen the action yours probably has, still I find it hard to swallow that simple day to day use of a hardy outdoor watch runs the finish off!

The same thing I had with my Suunto Core All Black. The black bezel on that thing got scratched just by looking at it.

  • Yah, if it's anodised then it's not particularly deep if that easily scratched off. It may even be a enamel finish. Either way, it's one of the reasons I try and get the bare metal finishes - particularly stainless if I can find it. It's the hardest steel they use and the hides scratches well. Far better than the DLC or enameled finishes.
