Garmin fenix 7 pro sapphire last seen message on weather

Recently purchased garmin fenix 7 pro sapphire (coming from Apple Watch Ultra) and when clicking on wether widget, get a message last seen 1 hour ago with picture of phone and slash through it. The only time that goes away is if I open the garmin connect app. Shouldn’t the connection be automatic?

For the watch to sync automatically, you will need to ensure a few settings are selected in your phone.

Ensure the Connect app is open and running in the background on your phone. You will not want to force close this.
You will need background app refresh selected in the Connect app settings in your Phone.
You will want to avoid using any low power mode or battery saver mode on the phone.
Ensure the location services for the Connect app are set to Always in the Phone.

Once you have configured these settings, you will want to force close the Connect app and reopen. If there is no change, you can also complete a hard reset on the watch. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power on again. You may also want to powercycle the phone.
