Distance Intervals where is the last lap time after each effort - confused

Pretty sure my old forerunner used to briefly show the the step time of a set distance effort within a custom workout I have setup. But can't see how my new Fenix 7 is set to do the same. As an example, I have a custom workout set of 5x 1km repeats. After each of the 1km efforts I'd like to see a quick snapshot of the achieved time for that km eg 3mins 30 secs.  (similar to what happens at the end of each 1km Auto lap, during a regular run)  My old forerunner used to do this but my watch just moves to the next step after briefly showing the instruction for the recovery step (eg. 2 mins recovery) with no info on the last step

It's frustrating as I like to do a workout and get a snapshot of what km splits I am hitting during the session as I finish each one. But I now have no clue and have to wait to view the workout on Connect or Strava when I get home. I presume its in there somewhere as I am confident my old Forerunner 645 used to give me a time split after each effort of varying length and with this watch being a significant upgrade I would have expected no less functionality , but may be wrong.  Be great if someone could help me display this function.

If its not possible, I have been thinking of a workaround by setting a data screen to show "Last Lap Time" and "Last Lap Pace"  However I am unsure whether automatically completing interval step within a set workout actually trigger a Lap completion as you are not hitting the lap button or triggering an auto lap ?  Also presumably if I used this as an option I would need to manually disable Autolap (currently set at autodistance 1km) so that doesnt skew the "Last Lap timer" reading, if my effort intervals are over 1km distance ?

A much better option for me would be the quick snapshot as I finish an effort interval as per the old forerunner, but I cannot find any info to set this up

  • Absolutely! My watch use to do this as well, Garmin took away this feature in the most recent software “update”. Garmin is literally unnovating. Now if you want to know the splits for your track session you have to wait till the end of the session, sync your watch and then look at your times. You’ll never know if you were running too fast or too slow. There’s no way to hit your targets because you’ll only ever know them after you’ve finished your session. Garmin why do you do this kind of thing???   It’s like a pack of monkeys is planning and coding nowadays. No offence to monkeys.

  • Hello. Is this for real for the Fenix 7?? Garmin as really removed this huge practical info in the end of each interval?? My old Fenix 5 did that, and now I'm missing it. I'm just "blind" in the endf each run lap. It was very usefull to know the time in the end of each distance interval lap, or to know de distance in the end of each time interval lap. This was automatically set im my old Fenix. How and why the *** Garmin removes this info?? I'm shocked. I want my money back (lol). I juns can't understand this decision... Joy

  • I ended up setting a Data Screen with the last lap time and pace, it is a decent workaround but a bit of a faff, as you have to manually change screens after each effort

  • Hi. Yes, it's the best workarround to do. But it's very strange why Garmin goes back in a very useful way to see the data. I ask myself what's going to their minds to make this desicions. Disappointed

    Thanks for the tip. :)

  • If I am understand correctly. My Fenix 7X SS tells me the average time after a sprint finishes.
    example. 10’ 5:45”pace -  (15” 3:20 pace ) x7 - 10’ 5:45”. My device tells me after each of the 7 15” sprint the pace that I have reached.

Hope this can helps you. Last version installed.

    regards.

  • Hi macmanaman. Thanks for the tip. What I need is this:

. In the end of each distance interval, to know the time of that step.

. In the end of each time interval, to know the distance of that step.

In my old Fenix 5, in the end of each run interval step, the watch shows in a glance what is the next step (usually xx secs recovery) and at the same time shows the time or distance of that last run step that just ended. And It was very usefull. Now I'm "blind" in the end of each run step. It doesn't make any sense to remove this feature.

I just set a new data screen with the infos that I need (lap dist, last lap dist, lap time, last time, and paces, it's usefull too). I'm just sad that I can't configure a data field with the current step timer counting backwards. Doing like this I need to change between screens if I want to see the step timer. It's better than nothing, but it's ironic buying a new watch to lose a good feature and have more trouble. :P

Thanks anyway for the tip. :)
