Garmin fenix7 vs iwatch ultra

Hi

i love my fenix5, but time for a new watch - hope to continue with garmin

anyone who knows about cons and pro fenix 7 and watch ultra?

Important: can fenix 7 also function as a phone with eSIM, without phone close to you?

hope to hear from you all?

  • can fenix 7 also function as a phone with eSIM, without phone close to you?

No, fortunately not. The fenix is a sports watch.

If you want a smartwatch, buy an ultra. If you want a sports watch, buy the fenix.

Plenty of discussions in these forums and elsewhere. Take look at some of them but do keep an open mind.

  • You need to tell us something about your use-case. These are two very different watches.

Fenix: for people who are training for something specific (triathlon, marathon, ultra, bike races etc) and need detailed metrics on their performance and recovery. It's also for people who go out into the backcountry and who need offline mapping and a watch that will last for days rather than hours without needing a phone to operate (mapping). Something to rely on when everything else runs out of battery or breaks on you in a bad situation.

Apple Watch Ultra: for people who want to log, short runs, rides and basic gym workouts from time to time. It's also for people who want the best possible integration with their iPhone (works best with all of the apps already installed on your iPhone ), plus can take phone calls and respond to texts via voice when your phone isn't around for short periods. Also for people who don't mind charging their watch every 1 to 2 days. Not made for people who like to head out into the backcountry for longer than a day.

Both watches are starting to converge though with the Apple watch gradually getting more backcountry functions and Garmin rumoured to have the ability to take phone calls, respond to texts and generally have richer applications with their upcoming devices.

  • Having both (and just about every Fenix, now Descent series), I far rather have my Garmin for outdoor events and activities, especially when mapping, course following goes, and multisports..     The Apple fails in comparison....its not even close.      Also, the total ecosystem from Garmin if you use multiple devices is really good now.

As an everyday watch, the Ultra is superior with the app,   Case in point, Garmin Pay only allows one of my cards to be used.    The Ultra allows all including business cc for business trips/transactions.     I can start my car with the Ultra....Garmin I can not.   All luxuries, but the ability to perform daily tasks on the apple is really nice.

The Ultra is okay....but not a Garmin in the woods or serious athletics event,  IMHO
