16.22 - new feature (Automatic activity type detection within multisport activities)

I recently updated my Fenix 7x Pro to the latest software version (16.22), and I noticed a new feature called "automatic activity type detection within multisport activities." I'm curious to know how this feature works and how I can enable it.

Here are my questions:

  1. How do I enable automatic activity type detection? Is there a specific setting I need to toggle on?
  2. What are the limitations of this feature? Are there any activities that it might not be able to detect accurately?
  3. Can I customize the settings for automatic activity type detection? For example, can I choose which activities I want the watch to detect automatically?

Any insights or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Probably with accelerometer and gps.
The watch knows swim movements -> run will be a transition if followed by bike movements (Speed). Running again transition. Stop and running again -> run part.
AppleWatch is having this feature since some time. You will be more accurate with the transition timings and so on if you stay with manual switching.
Nice to try, but I wouldn’t risk a wrong timing.

  • I wonder if it will keep all recorded data so you can change it in the end. Because usually not all activities keep the same data and you lose it when changing the type.

  • Hello

This feature will work for any multisport activity, including triathlon and duathlon. This will automatically detect the activity you are performing to transition from one activity to another without a button press needed. This will use GPS, gyro and accelerometer to detect the activity performed. If this is detected incorrectly, you will have a few seconds to decline on the watch.

This will be able to auto detect Run, Bike or swim. But will not work for Multisport activities that have the same activity type twice. For example Run/Run/Bike.

  • I didn't understand something.
Let's say I choose the "Run" activity. If I do something else in the middle of it, like walking, will the watch automatically detect it? So, do I still need to start an activity first, and if the watch detects that I'm doing something else, will it notify me?

For example, if I'm in the middle of a cardio activity and suddenly start jumping rope, will the watch detect it and automatically change the activity to jump rope?

    Additional questions:

    • Is there a way to customize the sensitivity of the automatic activity detection feature?
    • Can I see a list of all the activities that the watch can automatically detect?

    Thank you for your clarification!

  • No.

You need to start a Multisport activity. „Run“ is not Multisport..

And the activities needs to be different. Run/walk is the same. You would need to bike or swim after run/walk for it to detect a change.

As he wrote. Only run/bike/swim will be detected.
And as far is I understand you also need to specify the sports you will do.

So you need to tell the watch in the Multisport activity what sports you will do in which order. Same as before,
but you don’t need to switch with the lap button by yourself.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
