Help with high aerobic shortage

I am having difficulty optimizing my workout load. I always have a “high aerobic shortage”.

I swim for exercise. I have been trying to add in more high intensity swimming for high aerobic. Here is a screen shot from today’s swim.

My training load page only has low aerobic activity.

I have not done a lactate threshold guided test. I am guessing my HR zones are set using my age (60) and sex (male). I feel like I am working hard during exercise especially during my 200 year intervals.

It might be as simple as I am not sustaining a zone 4 heartrate for as long as I need to. If I had some high aerobic I would feel better and could work on improving the numbers but with my current level of zero high aerobic it is somewhat depressing.

Any feedback would be appreciated.  ( I am using a Fenix 7 watch with a HR chest band )

  • Probably need to set your heart rate zones lower. Typically max HR for swimming could be as much as 20 beats lower than that for running for most recreational swimmers.

Most research for determining swimming HRmax has used college age or elite swimmers and recommend anywhere between 5 to 12 beats lower for those athletes. You can do a test to find your swimming HRmax using a similar protocol to other sports but that should only be done if cleared by a medical practitioner. Otherwise, take your current HRmax and drop it by 15 to 20 beats and see what that does.

  • Same problem here. A lot of exercises in mainly zone 3 and 4, since one month ago I only get low aerobic and anaerobic.

Any Solutions? Pulse zones Are correct, doesnt matter if I use the HRM belt or not.
