Treadmill pace and distance is garbage.

Fenix 7, Software 15.77 - Treadmill pace and distance is way off. I start my run…no pace nor distance for 2.5 mins…then a pace of 13-16 min/miles (laughable) finally after a mile the pace is somewhat in reality but still off.

I did not have this issue with previous treadmill runs back in May 2023 with the same watch.

Garmin, please fix this software bug. For the serious athletes that travel and need to use treadmills, it’s a serious issue.

  • Also…I’ve read all the threads and no solution.

    Seriously Garmin, please fix it.

  • - Are you using any extra sensors like HRMpro or a foot pod?
    - How does the cadence graph look when the pace/distance is off?

For me, the pace and distance is working quite well for medium pace, but it struggles to understand how fast I run when I am sprinting. It is supposed to self calibrate when doing outdoors GPS runs, but it is very limited how much full sprinting I can do.

  • I have been having the same problem on my treadmill runs (which I admittedly didn't do much of until the last week). Today I was able to go outside for the first time in a few weeks and had the same problem. My Garmin Vivoactive said 7.89 miles, but everyone else in my group said it had been 5 miles. And the pace was wildly inaccurate. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it a software update problem?

  • Hit stop after the run and select calibrate. Don't expect it to take incline or decline into account, that's expecting too much.

Once this is done it's accurate. Want more accuracy then get a foot pod.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your treadmill activities. I am going to reach out to you directly via Private Message to discuss this. I would love to investigate this further to help identify a solution.

  • My Garmin Vivoactive said 7.89 miles, but everyone else in my group said it had been 5 miles

I am very sorry to hear you are experiencing this as well. Since you are using a Vivoactive watch, I would recommend reporting this in the Vivo forums threads here. Since these watches use different softwares, this would be the best way to bring attention to the concern.

  • Heyo, any update on this one? I've noticed similar issues with my Fenix 7 using a treadmill with the 'Today's Suggestion' training plans. Reported pace is always a good 30-45 seconds off the time/speed I'm running at (ie I set the treddie to 4:45min/km split, my Fenix reports 5:15/5:25/5:40min/km splits the whole time).

Update: I used the 'Calibrate Treadmill' feature after yesterdays run to adjust the total distance, as it was out a bit and the pace tracking today was A LOT better (set treddie to 5:30m/km splits for 30 mins and the watch recorded my pace around 5:20/5:30 the whole time. Might be as simple as that?!

  • @heavyghost

The calibrate option is can absolutely help with this. It is also recommended to Run outdoors with GPS regularly, as this will also impact treadmill calibration.

  • This is so frustrating the treadmill training pace is way off and on a coached run on the watch.

    let me give an example

    step 1 run 0.50m

    step 2 run 2.5 m

    step 3 run 0.5m

the reality is with the treadmill

    step one completed 0.27m

    step two completed 1.76m

step three is now not a cool down 0.50 it’s a keep running until the treadmill reaches 3.5m workout. Calibration after the workout is not the solution it is ruining workouts.

please sort this out the pacing on the treadmill is set to 11:13 min miles

watch is completing at 07:50 min miles.
