How to turn off backlight for lap / autolap alerts?

It appears that regardless of backlight settings to OFF (during and not during activity, wrist gestures, no gestures) the watch lights up when lap alerts appear.

Is this a bug or is there a way to turn this off?

There are multiple similar reports from users of the F7 (and derivatives thereof). Technically, not a bug. It's Garmin's new paradigm on how backlight should work. It makes no sense, and after a common outrage among the community Garmin promised to bring back the old normal behavior, but we're still waiting.

I think this has been resolved with the new version, 15.77. In the previous one, the light would come on when there was a LAP notification and if you had the map on.
