Tempo more detailed?

I want the tempo to be more detailed.
i don’t want it to go in increments of 5 sec as it usually does.

is there any way of updating it faster?

Over all tempo you get is more detailed, but actual tempo goes from 3:30 to 3:35 min/km for instance.
And it’s a big difference.

Maybe it’s to small changes for it to give better actual tempo due to the gps accuracy?

any suggestions?

  • GPS only gives position, not speed. However, by stringing together several GPS positions, you can get a speed/pace estimate. Instant pace is generally the distance covered over 3-5 seconds, and a GPS error of only 1 or 2 metres will make a big difference to estimated pace. The inherent small inaccuracies of GPS means that estimating instant pace down to the second is a false level of precision.

But I totally get that over 5km, 3:30/km vs 3:35/km makes a big difference between setting a new personal best, and not, by some 25 seconds.  I would suggest using Lap Pace as a datafield. By using your pace averaged over a significantly longer distance, any individual GPS errors are minimized. and you have a better idea of whether you are on track to meet your target.

  • Yes I know it’s a position:) but indirect it’s the speed (time) between those positions that makes out the time.
and you are right, it’s probably to granular to get an update every 1 sec, and you would need a few more seconds to get a more smoothed out actual pace. I kinda knew the answer in fore hand Slight smile

In the back of my head I thought I have read somewhere that you could set that actual pace been taken from, for instance, 3 sec or 5 seconds and so on.

I just have to  get use to have it like this and look at over all pace and last lap and so on.

i would really help to get 3:44 or 3:46 instead of 3:45 though :)
