You can customize any screen of any activity in the way you wish. Including the default screen (non-workout). You can also reorder the data screen of any activity profile in the way you prefer. See more details here:

Editing Data Screens on a fēnix 7 or fēnix 7 Pro Watch | Garmin Customer Support

However, if you want to use a structured Workout, the default workout screen is not customizable, you have to replace it with your own one.

having the parameter to be displayed (like in the Edge series) = average lap pace (useful when i train with reps in a uploaded workout)

Average Lap Pace is available as a data field, so you can add it to any Data Screen you wish. Again, see the above mentioned article, specifically the section Editing Data Fields, for more detailed instructions.

  • sorry but average lap pace datafield (not be confused with averagepace which refers to the whole activity) is not available on Fenix7 (is available on Edge which i often use).

Please try to design a workout on the app and start it. The default screen is not editable (4 datafields fixed).

  • I do not own an F7, just the Instinct 2, however it is very similar as for the functionality and as for the available data fields goes. I would be very surprised if F7 did not have the same options. The average Lap Pace is available in Data Fields » Pace » Lap Pace. Although it is not labeled "Average Lap Pace", rather just "Lap Pace", it indeed is the average pace of the currently active lap. And the average lap pace is also normally the value that is being shown on the Workout screen, if the target focus is on the Pace. The instant pace data field is called just Pace. It is the same regardless of laps.

The default screen is not editable

The default screen of the workout is not customizable, but the default screen of the activity is. So you can redesign the default screen of the activity, or add a new one, and use the fields that you prefer. You then just need to scroll down once, when you start the workout, to see your customized data screen, instead of the default workout screen.

  • For me, it's a simple one that my previous fitness watches did that this one doesn't, the auto selection of an activity when the Start button is pressed. In my previous VA and Venu watches, pressing the Start button defaults to the first (top) activity. So whatever activity you put as the first, it's the one selected by default. On a watch like the Fenix with its loads of activities, having a default one would be great. For example, I go on a daily walk, but runs, bikes, ski, kayak, etc activities but those are random. Selecting my previous kayak activity when I might not be doing one for a week is useless. Let me choose one as default! No need to look at the screen, press Start to open up the activity list with the first one already selected, second press launches it and the third press starts it. Bang, you're done. Now I have to look what I did last and scroll to the one I want, almost every time.

Your post is not really addressing the issues from the OP, but you can get the functionality you wish. Assign your preferred default activity as Favorite, and let all others in the non-favorite section. The watch remembers the last activity type only if it were among the favorites.

  • Thanks. A bit different than what I was used to do with my previous fitness watches but it did the trick.

  • hello! i took time to check better what you suggest but unfortunately i did not find solution to my question. Basically i could not set the average lap pace on my default datascreen (the one which displays by default when i start a workout).

Let me share my need: i'd like to see - ON MY DEFAULT DATASCREEN - the average set HR once i start a workout. For istance, if i create a new workout with 10 reps of 3' @ exstabilished AVG( HR) + 10 reps recovery, i'd like to see on my default Datascreen that data and not the whole HR average or desume it from the instant HR or switching datascreeen.

Thanks who can solve my need or otherwise adressing to the Garmin Developers
