Wrong (black) watch icon of Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar (Mineral Blue) in Garmin Connect + Garmin Express

Hello, a few days ago i received a (paid for) recertified replacement for my Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar (Mineral Blue Titanium Bezel), because of a failing Start button after 1.5 years of use only when doing activities. A bit disappointing as i paid back then almost 1000,-€ for the watch.

When i pair the watch with Connect a list of possible devices is listed. The Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar in this list though is black and there is no option for mineral blue. Before the replacement the watch was properly displayed in white / blue as this is also the appearance of the Mineral Blue Colour option. Same goes for Garmin Express on PC, the newly paired Fenix 7X is displayed black there.

After contacting support and describing the problem they advised to sign out and uninstall Connect, turn off the watch for a minute and pair the watch again (also remove it from the list of paired devices on the phone). I already suspected that this isn't a Connect issue alone because in Garmin Express on my PC the watch was also displayed with a black icon. I'm not sure Garmin support understood that this is not only affecting Connect on the phone. Probably i just got a standard answer without bothering with details.

Anyone maybe already had this problem and was able to fix it?

The image on the left shows the old icon of the Fenix 7X as it was displayed before in the proper Mineral Blue colour and on the right when the new watch is paired there is only the black colour listed though the watch is also Mineral Blue:

  • I also had my F7X SS replaced by Garmin having problem with Garmin Pay, and at the Garmin Connect App, although the description of watch is correct (fenix 7X Sapphire Solar) the icon above is of a fenix 7X solar (with red colour at start button). At Garmin Connect web page and IQ store, the icons are correct. Since the watch works as should ,it doesn't bother me!

  • Thanks for your reply. I also checked the web page now, there my F7X SS is also displayed in black (as well as in Garmin Express / IQ store / Connect).

As i understand it a recertified device is supposed to be as good as new, offers a 12 month warranty and i also paid almost 260,-€ for the recertified watch, so i expect it to work perfectly. Especially when i might be selling the watch as i usually buy the newest Fenix then this might be a bug a possible buyer might not like.

What i suspect is that because recertified devices are built from parts of returned watches, probably there is something built in the watch that before was part of a black Fenix 7?

    Garmin about recertified devices:

  • Salve, mi unisco alla discussione sui resi in garanzia a Garmin. Poiché Garmin approva la mia procedura di reso in garanzia, come posso essere sicuro che Garmin mi restituisca un orologio nuovo e non un prodotto ricondizionato? Allora non capisco perché hai dovuto pagare per un prodotto che aveva 1,5 anni? Il tuo prodotto non era ancora in garanzia? What is the difference between a refurbished and recertified product?

  • If it is a recertified device it comes with simpler packaging, also it comes without anything else except the watch. Also it says so on the label and on the invoice you maybe get with it. A one year "limited" warranty is standard with Garmin products as far as i know, see here:

    www.garmin.com/.../

  • Sorry but shouldn't the warranty last 2 years? I purchased my fenix in Italy and I'm sure I have a 2 year warranty. I would like to understand what determines whether Garmin sends you a new product or a refurbished product.

  • The replacement watch was not in a commercial package, it was in a white foam bag and there was a clear film on screen. The new guaranty is for 2 more years and it seems to be in brand new condition. The replacement was for free.

  • Correct, except for the warranty and my watch came in a little box with a simple label on it which already stated that this is a recertified device.

"Garmin Recertified devices purchased from a Garmin dealer still have a one-year manufacturer’s warranty. Recertified devices received as a replacement for servicing will have either a 90-day warranty or the remainder of the original device’s warranty, whichever is longer."

    See here: support.garmin.com/.../

Though i am not quite sure what is meant by "replacement for servicing" . Guess it means when purchased like i did because of the failing back button outside of the 1-year limited warranty then i get one full year warranty again. If it is a replacement INSIDE the one year warranty then at least one will get 90 days or if the remainder of the warranty is more than that then this amount of time?
