deployment update 15.74

Hello Garmin

The deployment of the update appears to be gradual, and not identical across all distribution channels.

So you are going to tell me that a progressive deployment makes it possible to detect a possible deployment problem, except that it seems to me that there is the beta program for that.

Would it be possible to, in addition to the current distribution channels, provide the files for those wanting to install it by cable via PC?

Personally I was able to do the update last night via wifi, but preferring to do the updates via cable I would have preferred that Garmin Express gave it before wifi, or to be able to download the file manually

I thank you in advance
  • Actively try to install the update System > Software update > Check for updates (via WLAN)

  • Funny how some people are impatient and pretentious :)
I learned one thing from garmin - don't be their beta tester if you don't want to and don't install as soon as the production version of the firmware is released. Waiting 2-3 days will not make the crown fall off my head. For that, in many cases, it has saved me from installing an unrefined final version :)
You go on a trip where you'll probably have limited access to restore yourself to a previous firmware version if need be, but insist that such an update appear on your Fenix - do you know what it's called? :) Recklessness.

  • @Ch4rvel: there is no impatience or any pretension, I admit that I find you slightly insulting and contemptuous, which is quite unpleasant.

Since the 7 series was released almost 2 years ago, it is no longer a beta tester.

And when Garmin releases a fantastic feature which is the large font, which would finally allow me to read my watch correctly, yes I have the right to be impatient, knowing that I did not pay less for my watch in return for it. 'have a late update.

I repeat it again and again, personally I have always been satisfied with Garmin and we must admit that there is no better GPS watch, but the deployment of updates really needs to be improved.

  • I suggest you don't buy a Tesla then. It can be weeks before an Over The Air update is pushed to you car if waiting a few days for a watch is so upsetting to you.

  • yeah i thought manually requesting update via system settings pushes it to the device. is that not the case?

  • Unfortunately no...

And ok, if Garmin wants to do this, why don't they make the GUPDATE.GCD file available in parallel for those wanting to force the update?

When version 23H2 of Windows 11 was released, if it was not present in Windows Update, you had to manually download the installer or the ISO, why is Garmin not taking inspiration from it?

  • No, and neither in a Tesla vehicle. I just got the update for my watch this morning. I asked to check for updates last night and it said there were none.

At least, for the Fenix the updates are massive. In my Venu 2, updates fixes a few bugs and that's it.

  • From what you've written, it seems that you enjoy being a beta tester. Why didn't you sign up for the beta program? You would have had your feature you've been waiting for a long time ago - version 15.68 which implemented it has been available for over a month.

And yes, the implementation of the update should improve on even more thorough QA testing. But by no means in making the update suddenly available to the whole world.

  • I correct myself, and thank you to those who responded.

the request by wifi directly from the watch gave the update.

I will finally be able to read my watch well thanks to the large font.

If this is the action to be carried out then I will not come here to complain anymore.
  • "Complaining" is not bad, as long as it is constructive. You probably don't know the implementation process of any software that reaches a large number of consumers around the world - and I'm not just writing about garmin and fenix, but operating system manufacturers, console/computer game developers - bugs can never be completely ruled out. Software is written by humans, and we all get it wrong sometimes. Releasing updates in waves is supposed to protect the company from a total business disaster - and that would be a faulty update that spoils the watches of ALL customers in the world. Business-wise - because Garmin has its shareholders. Do I have to write you what shareholders do when they find out that the company they invest in is leading to the dissatisfaction of hundreds of thousands of customers around the world?
