Garmin fenix 7 out of bounds shot

I have a garmin fenix 7 and use it to record golf activities and stats.

I have auto shot on and when I take a shot it records it. However if it goes out of bounds it then records a new shot and on the garmin golf app it won’t show both shots just the second shot.

I know it can be marked as out of bounds but it won’t be accurate and add up. Is there a way to record an out of bounds shot on the watch?

  • The watch may or may not record the shot properly to display in the Garmin Golf app. The shot displaying on the map within the score card, will depend on the layout of the course being played, and how far out of bounds the ball is in relation to the course map boundaries for the hole where the shot was taken.

Using the Stat Tracking feature, a shot can be retaken in bounds by either dropping a ball in bounds near where the initial shot went out of bounds...or you can drop a ball from the location the shot was taken from. When exiting the green after putting at the end of the hole, the user can enter the score and will then be prompted to enter the stat tracking info where you can input the penalties for that hole.

Hit all shots within bounds for each hole on the course to ensure all shots are recorded properly when viewing them on the scorecard through the Garmin Golf app.

  • It is extremely difficult to ensure all shots are within bounds especially for amateur golfers so that does not help.

I understand about using the stat tracking feature and inputting penalties however that also does not answer my question as my issue isn’t with that but with ensuring the shots get recorded when viewing the shots for each hole.

You mention the watch may or may not record the shot properly, how do I ensure all shots are recorded properly including those out of bounds?

  • My previous reply was simply to explain that out of bounds shots may not record properly if you are out of bounds on a hole, and successfully recording a shot out of bounds will depend on how far out of bounds for the layout of that particular course.

The watch is designed to record shots, and to provide accurate distance information within the dimensions of each hole. The distance if out of bounds will display accordingly, however the shot may not display properly if taken on another hole or if taken out of bounds.

Below are links to the Garmin Support articles covering further information about the AutoShot feature on your watch, and troubleshooting AutoShot detection as well:

  • So the simple answer is no.

Sadly, you must record the OB penalty on the watch at the end of the hole, go home, log into the Garmin website go to the hole, and edit the shot that was OB. I've learned from doing this, Garmin gets confused, especially if you carry multiple clubs (yes fob down). I have to change every scorecard for one reason or another.

Which of course means, you need you keep track of this on the scorecard while playing.

So easy to fix. I presume none of the sw engineers play bogey golf or golf at all.

For $2K between the watch and the fobs, I was hoping this would make things easier. Many of us are just trying to get clear feedback to help with the caddie recomendation which is brilliant.

While I'm on a rant, pls fix the silliness between the golf app and Garmin connect. Combine them, separate them.. So confusing to have to download courses on Connect  to sync to the watch vs the golf app. You download on the golf app, but the courses don't sync to your watch. When I play golf, phone is in the bag. Come on man...
