Edurance score sinking despite training

Hello everyone,

Have any of you really understood how the endurance score works?
Honestly, I can't figure out why a value goes down or up.
On Saturday I went for a 1:30 hour LIT run and on Sunday I did a 2:00 LIT bike ride.
Despite the training, my endurance score is dropping. And I don't understand why.
It's logical to me that my endurance score has dropped since the Berlin Marathon because I'm not training as much as before.
But instead of a maximum of 11 hours of training per week before Berlin, I still managed 8 hours of triathlon training last week, for example.
Since the end of September, my endurance value has dropped from 6,300 to 5,400 and I have only trained a little for 2 weeks.
My 36-week training plan for a long distance has been running since the end of October and despite the 8 hours of training last week (without athletic training) my value continues to fall.

WHY?

Regards

Michael

  • The endurance score tries to evaluate your ability to sustain performance over long stretches of time (length depending on activity).

The score looks at longer term training history and performance (2-3 months) and more recent (2-week period).

    https://www.garmin.com/en-US/garmin-technology/running-science/physiological-measurements/endurance-score/

So to be clear, your performance during endurance type (ie long duration steady workouts) is taken into account, not your training volume per week.

If you want your endurance score to go up, perform long steady runs, swims and rides.

My endurance score dropped during the summer as I stopped biking and focused on 5k training. I went back to long bike rides (3h+) in addition to my 5k training when I came back and the score is now back up.

  • I personally think Endurance Score is garbage. Mine has plummeted nearly 1,000 points in the last 2 months, simply because I've replaced running with XC skiing. My sessions are exactly the same as running, only on skis - 2 long sessions (3-4 hours), 4 short sessions (40-60 mins), 2 threshold or interval sessions. Today I did a 27k threshold session and the stupid score went DOWN 100 points. I reckon it doesn't even count any sports sessions except running and cycling. And to cap off the madness, my VO2 has gone UP 4 points in this time. Someone explain THAT!

  • Mine plummeted 400 points after I clocked a 3 mile walk. And it goes down by at least 100 points every time I run despite the fact that I'm running more, faster and farther with much more ease and a heart rate that's measureably better by a long shot. So something is wonky here. I decided to remove it from the stats I watch because it's literally going the opposite direction from everything else.

  • It seems that the more I move, it goes down. When I do a really lazy training, it can go up.

  • There was a watch update last week and I’ve noticed the same. The metric is now useless. I’m running 30k decent pace low hr, or 18k midweek picking up the pace at the end as examples and the score goes down.
