Who wished for this ?

  • Oh wow. Even at the same price as the WiFi model. Weird.

Either they cannot get enough WiFi chips or they want to sell more Saphire models and are therefore downgrading the non- saphire model.

But seriously, to call it "pro" and not give it WiFi, while the non-pro model has WiFi is quite bizarre.

  • Probably a lot of people.  Many government facilities (US at least) have strict rules on personally owned electronics in classified space.  1 of the big prohibited features is wifi.  This is great for anyone that works in those facilities and wants to still have a Garmin on all day.

  • In companies, where this certainly applies, there are restrictive regulations, the wifi is certainly not publicly accessible, you need the keys to join the wifi, etc.
And how do you want to check whether it is a clock with or without wifi?
Check the entrance every morning and ask to see the clock settings?

  • Actually such facilities they don't have wifi networks in them at all which is why the watch with wifi is forbidden.  And yes there is a list of approved devices and you would have to prove yours is an approved device each time to gain entry.  I've worked in such facilities before and it is handled rather strictly.
