Tactix 7 Pro battery drain 14.68

Hi all,

I'm experiencing unprecedented and significant battery drain issues with my Tactix 7 Pro.

I bought the watch in June 2022 and until a few weeks ago everything was fine. Superlative battery life, up to 55-57(!) days used with pre-installed watch face and power saving mode always on, except during outdoor or training activities. Solar recharge helped here of course. Anyway, never had any issues.

Then in September, I installed a few watch faces (5 or 6) and after a month or so (mid-October) the watch started to consume the battery at a fast pace, around 6% per day even if the power saving mode is activated (so no Bluetooth, no HR, no OX, no wifi, no GPS, no music, backlight at 5%, screen light off after 4 seconds, no gesture). Some of these watch faces display seconds and have HR functions, but the latter doesn't work since the watch is in power-saving mode.

After charging, the battery estimate is at 57 days, but every day the estimate drops by 2 or 3 days, with battery consumption at 15% in 2 days (with power saving on)

Could it be the new software update 14.68? Are the watch faces? Yet for the first few weeks with the new watch face the battery consumption was normal.

Does anyone have the same issue?

I've just tried a soft reset and I'll update this post.

  • The next thing I would try is to remove the watch faces and see if that makes a difference. But unless they are active, I wouldn't expect that.

The other thing to keep in mind is that as the days are getting shorter (assuming you're in the northern hemisphere), the watch will get less sunlight (both duration and intensity).

  • Thanks for your reply. After the soft reset nothing has changed. Battery consumption is still around 5-6% daily in power saving mode.

I'll try to uninstall the watch faces and see. I've read that some watch faces continue to function in the background even when they are not in use. That could help explain the issue.

But I'm also seeing several reports about the same battery draining issue from other tactic 7 pro / Fenix 7 pro owners. So maybe there's more at play here.

I am sorry you have the issue. Maybe to your comment. Long story short, it's extremely complicated unless there are really large numbers of reports after a new software update. We did not see that happen for the v14.68 update that was released quarter 3. It can sometimes be the software update itself so I am not saying it cannot happen. I hope you are able to resolve the issue or the new quarter 4 official update coming very soon will help your watch clear things up.

Definitely start with removing your Connect IQ and testing again. I have seen correlation now and then with a fast battery drain issue and the Connect IQ watch face being used.

  • Thanks so much, Chris for the feedback. I haven't removed all the Connect IQ watch faces yet as I wanted to see if by removing just a few - those I didn't use at all - something would change. Battery draining has slightly slowed to 4% daily with power saving activated.

The interesting thing is that the largest consumption (3%) appears to happen during the night even if I don't wear the watch. Sleep mode starts at 11:30 pm and ends at 7:30 am, without the power saving activation option (as it would switch off the already set power saving mode in the morning - another issue many complain about). Any clue why?

I'll uninstall the watch faces today and see what happens.

    Thank you

Hmm. Thank you for more details. You might have no choice but to warranty exchange your watch but note that the quarter 4 new official 15.xx software update will be in release very soon. It will be worth installing it and testing it first before going to the exchange. I hope your watch issue resolves with the new update.

  • Thank you. My 1 year warranty has expired since I bought the watch in June 2022. Is it still possible to exchange it if the problem cannot be solved?

Anyway, I'll wait for the upcoming 15.xx software update. Hopefully, it will resolve the issues.

Again, last night the watch consumed 3% battery, whereas during the day it used 1% even with a 15-minute run. At this point, I'm starting to think it is a problem with the sleep mode and not the watch faces. I know other users have also experienced similar overnight drain issues.

  • Is it still possible to exchange it if the problem cannot be solved?

Yes. We maintain recertified inventory for as many years as possible. I am sending you a Private Message. When you are signed-in to the forums, check the top right corner to the right of the Notifications lightning bolt icon.

  • Hello Chris

I also have a problem with the battery. I am the owner of fenix 7 software version 14.68. Sunday evening the battery was 100 percent, Monday 99 percent, Tuesday 85 percent, Wednesday 50 percent. I use the watch to check my heart rate, so all location and wifi are turned off, bluethoth works, everything is stock. I only wear the watch when exercising and cardio, so about 12 hours a week

    here are my questions,
1 When will the new update "quarter 4 new official 15.xx softwar" you mention come out?
2 If the new software does not improve the battery condition, should the watch be returned under warranty?

    Best regards

    Maciej

I am sorry you have the issue.

    1) Very, very soon. I am not able to give an exact date simply because it can change in the final testing phase of the Beta software.

    2) Yes. 100%. Please do not hesitate to reach out and exchange your watch if the behavior continues.

  • thank you for the respond. I hope new update will solve problem. My warranty was expired 06.2023 :/
