Fenix 7 standard - touchscreen bug

Hi, i own a Fenix 7 standard with firmware version 14.68 and a standard watchface.
In the last few days I have a problem with the touchscreen.
In completely random way, it stops working and responding to the touch.
Only the physical buttons work.
Deactivating and reactivating the touch, it comes back to work properly for a random time.
It can be one hour, two days or 10 minutes.
Is this a known bug?

I found a similar post but with different firmware.

thanks for the feedback

  • I have the same model and I'm not facing this issue with 14.68, perhaps factory reset with a backup taken previously could work .Also be sure you have clean the screen this could impact the performance.

  • I forgot to write that I don't use screen protectors and the screen is clean.
But why do you recommend a restore from a backup instead of reinstalling the firmware with garmin express?

    Tnx.

  • it seems your been doing some workarounds  and yet is not solved, you can try reinstalling the firmware but other option could be factoring reset and restoring from the backup option so at least you will have the same settings as before. if this dosen't work then you will need to go to local Garmin store to check on that.

  • Update: It seems to be working properly again after two weeks without me doing anything.

  • Maybe you changed the watch face on your Garmin? I ask you this because I'm having the same problem and after trying everything at the software level, it seems that changing the watch face solves the problem.

  • Hi, I have this watchface.
Is it the same as yours?

  • No, I use a watchface from the store..

The watchface change worked for me at first, but it didn't last long... the problem appears again with an erratic touchscreen, losing sensitivity at times and then completely stopping working. I have to toggle the touchscreen on and off to get it working again. This fixes it for a short while.

I don't know if it's a hardware or software problem; or if it has to do with the memory used, the number of applications installed or the watchfaces downloaded

Garmin support can't find a solution; and they propose an exchange with a recertified one I don't like this proposal, since I don't have good experiences with reconditioned watches, which have a shorter lifespan; presenting problems.

It is an expensive watch, and I think that Garmin should change the watch for a new one, if it is within the warranty period.

  • Same situation for me.
Now it's been about three weeks that it doesn't freeze, and when it does, as with you, I have to take the touchscreen off and put it back on.

  • Hello, I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the touch screen. There are a few recommendations, if you are having trouble with the touchscreen.

    • Be sure there is no screen protector attached to the watch face.
    • Try cleaning the screen.
    • You will want use bare hands on the watch face, as opposed to with gloves etc.

Here are additional settings recommendations for the touch screen: Tips for Using The Touchscreen on Garmin Watches

If this is still not working correctly, you will want to try a hard reset. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.

If the issue continues, we would recommend trying a factory reset.

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHTfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If there is no change, you will want to contact Garmin Product Support.

  • Thanks, Of all the above, the only thing I haven't tried is the Hard Reset.
I've also contacted Garmin Support and we tried everything... Finally they suggested a replacement for a reconditioned watch; however I'm evaluating it , since I think that the lifespam of my current watch of one year, may be longer than that of the reconditioned one.
On the other hand, since it is not clear what the problem is (hardware, software, screen, etc.) there is no guarantee that with the new watch, I will have the same problems again...
