Which Fenix 7?

First I would like to thank you for letting me join the forum.

My name is Panayiotis and  I am from Cyprus. I know nothing for smartwatch but I really need one for helping me in my strength training and to use the gps maps for hiking / riding my motorcycle across the island and also get the notifications from my mobile since I am on my scooter all day delivering envelops and packages . Gps is a must in my job now and I have to learn how to use it. I search a lot for Fenix 7 series but I am confused which one is for me and what are the differences. I try to read and watch some reviews and find the differences but is like reading astrophysics.

So if you can help me and explain in simple words I will appreciate it. I am thinking for Fenix 7x pro solar but what is the difference from 7x sapphire

Thanking you in advance

Panayiotis

  • Hello Panayiotis. The biggest difference between the Fenix 7 series released in January 2022 and the newer Pro series released in the last 6 months, is you will gain ECG. For most customers, the ECG feature might not be needed unless there are concerns you are watching but there is also a newer version of the rear sensor array that contains the OHR sensor and PulseOX sensor along with the extra hardware required for the ECG feature.

Here is a Direct Comparison List between the watches you listed:

Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar vs. Fenix 7X Pro Solar

  • Chris Thank you very much for that. The link is very helpful. From what I read the GPS maps are the same on both and the battery life also.  I think I will start looking for a good deal in Fenix 7x pro solar, sapphire glass is better from what I read but is almost 250 euros more in price here in Cyprus.

Thank you again for the help

  • "you will gain ECG"

    works ECG in Cyprus ?

  • From what I find in my search is not working in Cyprus.

    works ECG in Cyprus ?

Thank you for catching this. At this time, these are the countries that have already gone through the full certification process that each country requires since the ECG feature is a Class 2 Medical device feature. When ECG was released for our Outdoor watches, there were 3 countries on the list and now there are 4. This article will continue to grow and will show each new country that has certified and approved the ECG feature being used in their country.

My apologies for not mentioning that in what I provided.

  • Dear Chris no need for apologies, Is not something that I need or use anyway. I just came home from the store, I went to see Fenix 7x  today and they show me the Epix sapphire 51mm also and for some reason I could see and read better on the epix (even without my glasses) and now I am confused. Any Help will be appreciated since I am new to all these. I know is not solar but for what I will use it is look good enough also.

  • The easiest way to approach both series is to think of the Epix series as the Fenix 7 series but the EPIX series has an AMOLED display. AMOLED will be much brighter inside but not as easily read in direct sunlight outside. A Fenix 7 MIPS display will be easier read in direct sunlight but might seem slightly dim inside so the wrist gesture feature to automatically turn on the backlight for the Fenix 7 series really comes in handy indoors. Their software is the same. Only the displays or the different bezel/band combos are different.

  • Thank you for the clarification. I will still looking for a good price for Fenix and Epix and hopefully very soon I will buy me a Christmas present.

So I am a Garmin user for many many years, owning many garmins with the Fenix 5s being my first Fenix. Since then I bought every new Fenix version. Now I tried the Epix Pro 42mm because of readbility. My eyes aren't the best anymore, wearing glasses etc.

I was torn but I returned the Epix Pro 42mm. I got it on sale for 750€ but would have to sell my Fenix 7s for about 300€. That would make a 450€ difference. Almost same with the 7s pro which at the moment is on sale for about 610€. Still around 300€ difference. And I found it not to be worth it. Yeah 32GB, Multiband, better display and esp new hr sensor and flashlight seems a lot. But still new hr sensor fails sometimes in difficult activities from reviews I have seen and even so the flashlight is nice to have I have my phone with me 90% of the time that I need it. Then there is 32GB and multiband coming from the standard version which is not that important to me. And if you buy the 7 sapphire you will have that in the normal 7 series already. So to me it is not worth it. If you find the 7 Pro for only 200€ to 250€ more then the best normal 7 offer, do it. Otherwise I would go for the normal 7 and safe that money for a hopefully MUCH better Fenix 8.

Wait until black friday, I believe the Fenix 7 series will be on sale again for a good price then.

  • Sapphire series in Epix and Fenix are out of my budget and you are right  is too much extra cash for just that.  I will keep looking for the best offer but Black Friday is a scam game in Cyprus, They put lower price on all the old stock and on the new they give 10-15% lower price. My son in law was working in one of the biggest electronic shops in the island and last year they raised the price 2-3 months  before Black Friday and then on that day they did 20% discount.

Thanks for the advise. I really like the Fenix 7x pro or standard and my only concern was my eyes (i wear glasses all the time) but from what Garmin-Chris and you wrote I am going with Fenix unless find an Epix cheaper.
