I am allergic to brass but gold is fine.

Cool. It amazes me the level of engineering that must go into things like those pins and the button contacts to make them reliable and durable for a long period of use in a variety of environments and abusive situations.
They can't even build a new rv that won't leak water for $100k but these go through *** for the tiny fee of 1k
Gold is included in a group of metals referred to as "noble" due to their resistance to corrosion. The resistance to corrosion is the reason for plating electrical contacts in gold -- the electrical conductivity of copper is actually higher than that of gold, so by plating the copper wires you're actually reducing the conductivity.
However, copper is not very wear-resistant and too soft. Gold offers the compromise between conductivity and strength.
