ECG setup issue

Hello friends,

For those in the US with a ECG enabled watch, did you have any issue setting it up ?

I am basically blocked when the watch asks to put the thumb and the finger on the watch bezel, I tried 27489723974239 times, and it just does not work.

And for the records, I was not moving, I was calm, my band was tight... But never even got to the screen when it is measuring.

Any similar experience ? Any hint ? Hardware issue ?

Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar here.

Thanks a lot.

  • I'm wondering if really no users in the US have problems with the ECG measurement?! If they also have problems, that would rule out any location / software bound problems.

The ECG function works with electrical impulse "send" through the body. Couldn't it just be that some human bodies are different (in conductivity) and because of that this is not working for everyone?

Maybe it is a design issue, maybe the electrical impulse is not strong enough compared to other smartwatches and because of that more people have problems with the Garmin watch compared to Apple watch or so.

Don't get me wrong, I have no evidence for this, it's just wild guessing.

  • Thanks for the insight, I feel this is the right topic. If I recall well, some US people also had the same issue. Which leaves the option of a random hardware issue or that body variability makes it ok or not - and this could also be corrected via software in the future, as Garmin could improve both sending the impulse or reading the answer.
In any case, it would be great to hear about this from Garmin, we are all loyal consumers, that paid quite a hefty amount of money for our watch, I think we deserve to know Garmin's analysis.

  • With reference to those of you that have problems getting an ECG reading.

Do you have dry hands I do a lot of manual work handling all sorts of treated timber and cement type products.

Try cleaning the bezel of the watch with soapy water to get the oils and dirt that accumulate. I do this every evening after work and have never had problems with it picking up my heartbeat

Even with gloves on my skin tends to damage more easily especially in the colder months,

When I had a Touch ID iPhone I used to have to redo the Touch ID on a regular bases, my droid work phone was totally useless so, had to switch the setting off.

This will affect the conductivity of the skin.

Try dampening your fingers and try again

  • I am in the united states, and have tried basically everything possible to get this to work and still have no luck. Every time there's a firmware update, I check again and see if it's now working, and it's still non-functional.

If you're asking "well have you tried".. the answer is yes. Nothing works. I've even had other people wear it, and attempt to get a reading and they have the same results, so I know this isn't something related to me and my fingers for instance.

Very frustrating to see no response from Garmin on this issue, and no solutions found.

What did Garmin Support tell you when you called them and spoke with them on the phone?

  • Maybe as this problem is recurring even for people in the States, Garmin could just answer the forum they created specifically for these sorts of issue ??? Except if they need we organise a class action and spend money with lawyers...

    Garmin people ??

  • Probably a good idea to revisit the Terms of use for the forums that I'm sure you would have read before signing up.

Please let us know how you get on with the Class Action.

  • Thank you @Philipshambrook for beefing up the debate from a legal point of view, are you working for Garmin ? Or are you a lawyer interested in assisting one of the parties ?

Please pay attention to my post, especially the "if" term and the use of conditional. I do not see any infringement to the Terms of use, just a request to Garmin to speak and answer an old post, with several requests from users who paid a hefty price for a good watch, supposed to work and which is not performing. This ought to be covered by laws to, with your extensive law knowledge, I am sure you are also aware of this.

Now, maybe you can also help with the answer or a status and we can all forget about anything legal which obviously would not be detailed here in this forum.

  • Guys, before talking about legal actions, a good start would be that someone from the US makes an official support request with Garmin.

I wonder why this has not happened yet, even after 4 pages of postings here in the forum.

  • In fact I fully agree ! Hence, the "if" and conditional. However, courtesy could have been that Garmin would have answered without the need of an official ticket, hence my push. , could you open a ticket to represent us ?
