Activity not pushing to watch through Garmin Connect and Strava

After my indoor virtual bike ride last night (using Wahoo KICKR V5 and Zwift) the activity has loaded perfectly from my Strava to my Garmin Connect, but the activity doesn't show on Garmin Fenix 7X. Somehow it's not being pushed through.

I've read other questions on this topic, but nothing has helped yet. e.g. turning performance conditioning off and on, sync Garmin Connect and watch multiple times.

It's pretty frustrating that it doesn't load on my watch as it now 'thinks' I am going into recovery mode and detraining. All the training advice it gives me is not according to my actual training activity as it 'doesn't know' what I am doing.

Any tips or help on how to solve this issue?

  • Is your Fenix 7 set as your primary wearable and primary training device?

  • Thanks for your reply. Yes, the only Garmin device I have is the Fenix 7. It is set as Primary Wearable and Primary training device.

  • I have had this happen occasionally if I soft reset the watch it will generally force a full sync with the GC Mobile app.

  • Thanks! I tried it, but it doesn't work for me unfortunately.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm confused by your workflow. My understanding is that you need to record the activity on the watch in order to view the activity on the watch. Typically, in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder. Has it ever worked for you where activities were "pushed" to the watch?

If you perform an activity direct from a smart trainer on a platform such as Zwift the watch is not involved in the process. In this case the activity would be first synced to Zwift, then to Garmin (if linked) and ultimately to the watch in order that it is included in your fitness stats.

  • Yeah, this is exactly the issue. When I train inside. I do not use my watch to track the activity. Rather, I track the activity using Zwift and after completing the activity is synchronized with Garmin Connect. I shows up there perfectly. However, Garmin Connect fails to 'push' or 'sync', or whatever you want to call it, the activity towards my watch.

So, the watch is not involved in any way with the activity, but I think it should reflect the activity list, as it shows up in the online environment of Garmin Connect, right?

I do my Zwift activities in exactly this manner with no watch interaction. I use a Fenix 7 as my primary wearable and activity tracker with a Marq Gen 2 connected by Physio Trueup and the Zwift activity will end up being synched back to both watches. Here is an example from last week with the source being identified as Connected App.

  • I found out what I did wrong and fixed my problem.

I had only linked Zwift to Strava. So my Zwift activity was sync'd to Strava. Following that my Strava sync'd to my Garmin account, but apparently that doesn't mean it also synchronizes the activity to my watch. So I was hoping for a Zwift > Strava > Garmin Connect > watch sync...

I have now also linked my Zwift acount directly to my Garmin Connect and my Zwift activity is now also viewable on my watch. The sync is now as follows: Zwift > Garmin Connect > Watch and works like a charm! Apart from that my Zwift is still also linked to my Strava.

    Thanks for all the advice!
