F7Pro dust and something in HR sensor

I got second F7Pro, first had damaged steel vibrations. Now on the second watch I realized, that there is dust and something like rubber glue inside the HR sensor... I don't know why I have so much luck for this pieces. Don't know if it could affect HR measurements.

  • I contacted Garmin service center and they told me, that there definitely shouldn't be any dust or something in the sensor and that they can't guarantee me the waterproof of the watch and right measuring of the sensor.

Your Fenix 7 Pro watches being exchanged are not defective. Up to you if you choose to keep returning until Product Support refuses it but I highly recommend you use your watch.

  • So You say, that Yours authorized service center is wrong and that is normal to have some mess in 799USD "Ultimate high-performance smartwatch"? Why they don't told me, that this won't affect anything? I'll be then good with that. But still I think that it's not normal to have mess in two watches. The third had damaged vibration.

So Chris, can you assure me that these impurities in the sensor do not affect anything and the watch will measure the same as the other watch without impurities?

Overall I like Garmin watch, but since my first purchase of VA3 I only post bugs and lost so much time with that. These days the group track is not working, the restore function works, but after connecting F7Pro to ANY PC, the activity apps are lost from watch and can't be added again so this function is absolutely worthless, my F7 has OHR switched on even with chest strap connected and turning watch OHR off in menu doesn't change anything. Same with auto live track off, it starts automatically with each activity and I can continue...

It's great that you add many new features to watch, but very often it broke the already working functions. It's frustrating.

  • So You say, that Yours authorized service center is wrong

I am technically titled, "Senior Product Support" along with my other 10 responsibilities due to the very long time I have been with Garmin. I am saying that you should use your watch to determine if there is really an issue. I do not personally believe there is an issue with your watch.

  • This debate is going nowhere. You obviously don't want or can't give me a clear statement, if the dirt in the sensor, that got there during manufacturing, is OK. I am in no way questioning your position at Garmin, Chris!

  • Of course you alone decide what to do, but if I were you, here's what I would do: You have a new watch functioning properly and it's under warranty. Several people here (including me) have given you reasons why small amount of dust won't affect HR readings. And a Garmin representative has said your watch should be ok. So use your watch and enjoy it. It's not a piece of jewelry, it's a device, so requiring perfection is maybe not that useful (and the dust particle is not visible in normal use, so it wouldn't matter even if it were jewelry).

No-one can give you certainty in that your watch cannot have faults. And that would be the case even if the watch looked perfect from the outside. But that's what the warranty is for. And as you (and I) have experienced, Garmin warranty repair/exchange works well.

And if you want more proof in that the dust particle won't affect HR readings: look at dcrainmaker's watches in his video where he describes the new ecg feature: the back glass of the watch is heavily scratched, and still those are clearly the watches he uses daily. Slight smile

  • I don't want to imply that the tiny black lint-like thingy as in the second picture posted by honza-81 influences the correct working of the device. But I don't think it should be there. If this were my watch that I bought new for full price, I would probably be overly vigilant about any signs of problems. It would be a slightly less joyful experience than I would have hoped for.

I hope honza_81 can get over the less joyful initial experience and count on warranty covering it when functional defects occur. I consider Garmin's service excellent, they will help you out if something turns out not to be working 100%.
