Sequential Training Plans

I have done multiple training plans over the years (mostly Greg HM).  I've been basically satisfied with them.  What I want to do is stack training plans...a 10K followed by a HM plan.  The problem is that I can set up the 10K, but cannot have the HM 2 months later.  The date needs to be 12-16 weeks later.  Is there a way to have sequential plans that build off of each other?  I suspect not.

Overall it is quite frustrating to not be able to adjust the date of the new plans.  If I start a "new" plan, it never takes into account that I've been running/training all along.  It assumes I need 12-16 weeks and I need to start from the beginning.

An suggestions?

  • The Garmin coach plans have only some limited flexibility in terms of scheduling the race, therefore the length of training.

Since you are considering the running activity, you could switch to the racing plan daily suggestions for one or both of your target dates. Some scenarios to consider:

    - set up the Garmin Coach plan for the later date and a 10k race event somewhere earlier. During the 10k plan, you could choose Greg's workout or the Garmin daily workout suggestion. When you are done with the 10k, you can either follow it alone or add another HM race event.

    - only use the daily suggestions with 2 race events.

Note. I am using the first option now with a Galloway 5k plan overlapping a 10k race event. In the early weeks, the Galloway plans are really light, so I am doing both workouts. The nice thing is that the daily suggestions adapt to your workload, recovery needs and HRV balance/training readiness.

  • Thanks!  Very helpful.  I did do a combo.  One is Jeff for the HM in January.  The other is a 10K plan for October.  There are some days with multiple runs/activities, and I go into the calendar and delete redundant activities.  It seems to be a nice solution to the problem.
