Sleep/hrv inaccuracy Fénix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar is so bad I am going to stop wearing this watch for good

Sleep/hrv inaccuracy Fénix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar is so bad I am going to stop wearing this watch for good. I've been wearing this watch on my left arm and an Apple Ultra on my right hand for 6 months. According to Apple my sleep and hrv is perfect, always true to how I feel in the morning. Garming on the other hand always gives me a horrifying score, like rest for a month. It's ridiculous the fortune it costs to be so inaccurate and the lack of care Garmin pays to this. This Fenix7 is a piece of junk.

  • Do tell... which sports watch has better / more accurate HRV data?

Both HRV as well as sleep data aren't very exact data points... using that as a reason to stop wearing it seems rather irrational.

    Why aren't they very exact?

    • HRV has multiple methods of measurement to make comparing the HRV data of one watch to another very hard.
    • Sleep measurement is very far from being precise, considering that even the gold standard (PSG) isn't very accurate or meaningful, according to current research in sleep science.

So... if those two data points keep you from pursuing a more healthy lifestyle and working out more often / regularly: sure, change.
But it seems rather strange, as far as reasoning goes.

  • Thanks Ben. All I'm saying is exactly what you pointed out. Don't pay attention to garmin/apple. I received a score of 1 this morning. Just finished riding hard 4 hours, 128 km on a very hot and humid day. Later after work, hit the pool 5K freestyle before dinner. Not bad for a 60 year old fart right?

Other possibilities include how the watch is being worn, how the person sleeps (thinking here that sometimes the watch might be under the body/pillow).

While there are people who do have problems with sleep recording, I'm one of those who usually don't. My sleep start and end times reflect to within minutes of when I sleep, including time in bed reading before turning the light off. I can't speak for the categories of deep, REM etc., as they could be expected to differ between watch brands and even between watches worn on opposite arms but in general I have few complaints.
