Intermittent Bluetooth Phone Connectivity. Again!!!!

I recently upgraded the firmware to version 13.22, and I've encountered a recurrence of the intermittent Bluetooth connectivity issue. Additionally, there's been a noticeable increase in battery drain, now at 12% daily compared to the previous 5%. I had experienced a similar issue with version 11.28, which I managed to resolve through an Unprompted Reset. However, this process was quite cumbersome due to the need for software reconfigurations.

I recall that this issue was reported as early as version 11.28. Has Garmin acknowledged this problem? I'm also facing challenges with the watch not receiving notifications from my iPhone 13 mini, running iOS version 16.6. I suspect this may be related to the Bluetooth connectivity problem.

  • Yesterday I installed the update on the new Fenix - now the problem is back again...

I find it unfortunate that this topic has been discussed here in the forum for 7 months already, and it is currently ranked 6th in the score even in the beta forum, but STILL NO TICKET has been created on the part of the developers.

  • Hi All,

the same for me since the beginning I have watches on any firmware (also latest official 14.31 which I got yesterday) on three devices: Forerunner 955 Solar (all firmware versions), Fenix 7 Solar and Fenix 7S but only on iOS (3 different iPhones). On Android it works perfect and stable. On iOS I tried everything, re-pairing, resetting watches (soft - 15 sec. button an hard - wipe it completely), resetting phones (soft and hard - wipe them completely). The problem always starts during first step - adding watch to GCM and pairing, I always get an error, I have to repeat it many times and after 10-15 times it is paired. Then the next problem appears during sync via Bluetooth. I turn on BT in the phone and the watch and always get an info on watch: WAITING FOR PHONE or OPEN APP ON THE PHONE and this info changes every 4-5 seconds, even GCM is opened and BT turned on on the watch and phone. Of course GCM has no connection to the watch. After some time when I close GCM and open it many times it connects and sync starts but during sync it disconnects and situation repeats. I didn't report it earlier because I use BT sync only for weather and use Android phone. But it this case it looks for much bigger problem, in my opinion serious GCM issue, but from another side - when GCM is not opened, watch still can't create stable connection to the phone because it connects and disconnects all the time, so it shows some issue between watch and iOS system. Android works perfectly.

  • Does anyone have any solution, a workaround, anything? I re-paired the watch and phone after this update (after support's suggestion) and still have all the described symptoms: rarely connects to the phone (randomly, couple times throughout the day at most), no phone notifications on watch, battery is being drained like crazy.

Resets, re-pairing, "reinstall software" did nothing, Garmin support said they know about the issue and "are working on it", but can't tell how long it will take and have no alternative - they will not replace the watch or offer any solution other than "we will let you know when we fix it". Outrageous.

I turned off the phone connectivity on the watch to see if that helps with the battery in any way. I use wifi sync to sync the data now to Connect anyway since BT sync rarely works.

Is there any alternative? Is it possible to downgrade to previous firmware version or something?

  • For me performing an unprompted-reset solved this issue. However, if this issue reoccurs with the next firmware update, I won't be surprised, and I believe it will happen again.

  • Well, upgrading to v14 fixed the issue, mostly - it worked for a day, but then started being on and off again, but less than in v13. Now, however, my battery is dying after a day, went from 20% in the evening to 0% in the morning. So now the watch is basically unusable.

I forgot to mention that I tried uninstalling the connect app from my phone, and re-pairing the Fenix with the app, but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem.
