Fenix 7 PRO Series now has ECG

Hi.

The 7 Pro seems to have ecg hardware. Does the S Pro model has it too?

  • I've read that it doesn't have the hardware in the ring around the sensor like the pro...

  • I edited the question. I meant the S pro. And do you have a source link?

  • The sensor is the same for all watch sizes afaik.

  • I'm not sure I thought all pro versions have the hardware?..

  • Yeah but its not only the sensor. You also need a special cable inside linked with the button for the finger.

  • Yes, I read one of the buttons is modified on the pro models.

    Garmin's official stance is:

    • ECG (ElectroCardioGram), by definition cannot be done with an optical sensor. You need electrodes.

Correct. There is a hardware component for the ECG feature to work. Other than the Venu 2 Plus, there are currently no Outdoor or Fitness segment watches capable of using ECG.

So... looks like the Venu 2 Plus is your only option.  Admittedly, there is a lot of speculation out there, but I would not expect this feature to be available on any watch extant other than the Venu 2 Plus.

  • Well, that's old news.
This is about the Pro version of the Fenix 7.
And it has the technical requirements for an ECG, if you believe DC Rainmaker.
Also, the statement "Except for the Venu 2 Plus, there are currently no watches in the outdoor or fitness segment that are ECG capable." only applies to Garmin watches.
The way you read it, it suggests that it applies to all fitness watch manufacturers, which is false.

  • I don't want to argue here, I'll just write my opinion. I used F7 Pro for two weeks and it seems to me, that the watch will never have the ECG. We need electrodes, but the four metallic pads around the sensor seems to be behind thin layer of glass, so it could be for body temperature IMHO. That reminds me, I wanted to try to measure the resistance of this pads, but I forgot. Maybe someone could do that. If the surfaces are conductive, I believe we will see an ECG soon.

It may be "old" news, but nothing has changed - the Venu 2 Plus is the only watch Garmin offers with ecg capability.

As far as what meant, I take it as a Garmin rep, in a Garmin forum, addressing a question about Garmin watches, would be referring to extant Garmin watch offerings in the Garmin categaries of "Outdoor Recreation" and "Sports & Fitness."  To take it as including offerings from all makers is simply incorrect.

Bottom line: If someone wants a watch with ecg capability, and that is a key feature for them when choosing a new watch, then they should choose a watch that currently offers that capability and not "bet on the come" that any other watch might have it offered as a future upgrade - that upgrade may well never come.  No matter what Garmin outsiders may opine.
