47 vs 51mm size for GPS & maps when skiing?

Hi all,

I've seen lots of questions rearding what size to choose but none of them would focus on screen usability. And I need this watch mainly for GPS navigation in skitouring and other winter sports = function over fashion.

Prefer the normal size (47mm) due to my small wrist, but is it big enough to use the navigation efficiency? Or maybe it's worth going over my comfortable limit for better performance in the terrain?

  • I'd say that 4mm size difference is quite small. Bigger issue is fitting to wrist. It has to be comfortable or it's not good to use. I'm quite happy with a visibility of the middle size fenix. So try both sizes, pick that one which feels good. But that's just my opinion :)

  • Even the 47 mm (Fenix 7) looks big on my small wrist, and the 51 mm 6X looks enormous, but I never had an issue with the 6X for daily wear. I found the bigger screen a lot easier to view while running/hiking. I am over 55 and my eyes are not super great anymore. Sleeping with the 6X was a bit less comfortable than with the smaller 47mm Fenix 7.

I agree it's best to try both sizes and decide which one is the most comfortable to wear and view.
