Went on an out-back hike. I saved this as two separate walking activities.
On the return leg, I turned off walking autopause because of the steep terrain (mostly to silence the audible reminders).
As far as i know, I didn't change any other settings.
Garmin connect shows the "out" distance as 2.52 miles (this is what I used for my turnaround point).
Garmin connect shows the "return" distance as 4.09 miles (imagine my surprise when I wasn't near the trailhead at 2.5 miles on the way back. Literally an unhappy camper!)
FWIW, Google Earth and the hardcopy 2023 AWOL Appalachian Trail Guide both have the distance at about 3.2 miles.
Anybody know what's going on here?
Would using hiking as the activity type be better...when on trails?
