can't update firmware

The firmware on my Fenix 7s SS is 11.28 and could do with an update. But I can't!

I don't have home wifi and use phone data for everything. The garmin connect app is on the same phone, and for some reason I can't check for updates with the watch anymore, and I can't connect to the wifi the connect app is on. Argh.

Installed rubbish Garmin Express, and also no firmeware update. Only updates for various maps and the connect IQ store. How do I update the watch firmware?

I’m traveling at the moment and just checked for new software connected through Wi-Fi to my phone with a hotspot. If you have not already added the hotspot network you can do this through connect on the phone or directly on the watch. Assuming you already know this, make sure (at least with an iPhone) that the hotspot iis set for “Maximum Compatibility”. You can switch this back off when done syncing the software as it might decrease performance for the rest of the network.

Ok, maximise compatibility solved the problem. Otherwise my watch would not even see the wifi. Gosh, I thought only really old devices use this. Ok, got the update. That's something :)

Garmin devices only use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi while iPhone hotspot default is 5.0. Maximum Compatibility” Makes the hotspot 2.4.

Yep, so I learned. I don't have many wifi-enabled devices at home, but none needs this. Sigh. Thanks a lot again for your help
