F7 pressure laboratory compare just for fun

EDIT: Added TEMP test too.

Today I tried to compare F7 standard barometer with calibrated proffesional pressure monitor. I also compared the watch of colleagues - Amazfit GTR4 and older Honor watch GS Pro.

Measured "right" value was 960.8hPa

1st. place for Amazfit GTR4 with 961hPa (doesn´t show decimals)

2nd. place Honor watch GS Pro with 960hPa (doesn´t show decimals)

3rd. place F7 with 958.9hPa

When I owned F7Pro solar for two weeks, it shows 1hPa higher than my F7. So it was closer to the reference. In the end it doesn´t matter, because the trend is more important than real value, but if there was a possibility to add offset in some menu, it could be able to show perfectly accurate value :-).

I´m going to do some next temperature measurent tests in temperature chamber. Will post later :-).

You are probably asking yourself (as I did too), what is the reason Garmin makes the extra job and removes the temperature compensation from the raw data of the sensor, just to get a non-compensated barometric…

The ambient pressure data field can be added only in activity. It´s in category "OTHERS". I already wrote to Garmin maybe year ago, if they could add the ambient pressure to watchface, not…

Did you calibrate the Barometer in the F7 before your test?

This was ambient pressure, it can´t be calibrated. Calibration does have affected only the counted sea level pressure.

Can you explain please how I can observe ambient pressure on the watch?

The ambient pressure data field can be added only in activity. It´s in category "OTHERS". I already wrote to Garmin maybe year ago, if they could add the ambient pressure to watchface, not only the barometric pressure.

There could also be a switch added to view ambient pressure in barometric widget...

I have to wait for college when he returns from holiday. Don't want to play with his equipment.. :-) But next week I'll do the temperature test at few points.

Looking forward to your tests! Do you happen to have a Tempe sensor? They are not super accurate, I don't mind that, but I would really like to know how linear these are.

A slight aside but the main issue for me is drift....my fenix altimeter drifts even when the watch is stationary sat on a desk. Surely the algorithm can detect lack of movement and attribute pressure change to weather not altitude change?

Your conclusion is questionable if the two watches don't display decimals and you don't know if they round or truncate for display purposes. They might have measured 961.9 and 960.8, respectively.
