I removed the garmin spring bar and replaced with the ordinary spring bar and a rubber band

The garmin original spring bar was much easier to remove than expected, I got it done by an old paper cutter, in less than 5 minutes.

then I installed a rubber band with a pair of ordinary spring bars, 2mm diameter and 22mm length.

below picture shows a comparison among garmin spring bars and the ordinary ones. on the right side are the pair of 2mm diameter spring bars, on the left side are the pair of 1.8mm diameter ones i was using yesterday. I actually removed the garmin spring bars in yesterday and install another silicone band. But the rubber band which i m currently using is seems way better. I am very happy that since then I could try a lot of different watch band with my Fenix 7.

  • Hmm, actually default spring bars seems more durable. Thats why i don't remove them. If you read forums you can find posts with "disappeared" watches on the sea or other activities. And thats not cause of different bands but cause of the springs. Specially on older watches.

  • True. I'm using default bars with nylon ultrafit style strap and nothing happened. When I was trying with f6 bars, strap opened them two times during normal usage, eg while putting jacket on.

  • I totally agree that the garmin spring bars are more durable, the reason is the garmin one has much thicker head than the ordinary spring bar, while the holes on the watch lug are also that big. But I did try to wear my fenix 7 with these ordinary spring bars and bands during sport activities, for hours, nothing bad happened, I also tried hard pulls and drags to test the bands, and they won't come off, I would say, so far so good.  As the ordinary 2.0mm spring bar is same length as the garmin one, so both ends of it should reach and push tightly the bottom of the lug hole. Hopefully everything will be fine for that.
