Intensity minutes - over generous

Hello

I have been an on off user of Garmin Products, so little experience or data to back up my query.

previously using fenix 5 and 6 - I felt intensity minutes weren't being recorded.

I am now using a fenix 7 and I am having the opposite issue, where I feel its being over generous its allocation.

I am therefore looking for tips and advise, for set up, calibration etc for getting a realistic figure

Thanks in advance

  • Can you quantify In what way do you feel it is being over generous?

  • it feels like its recording every time I walk as intensity - for example moving about the house and/or garden.

previously it wouldnt recognise a vigorous walk to the shops

  • Make sure your max HR and Zones (and/or Threshold values) are correct.  After that I'm not sure it really matters as Intensity minutes has limited direct value other than comparing how YOU are doing day to day, week to week etc with respect to getting some exercise.  It might help some people get more consistent in exercising but for a more structured training programs, Intensity Minutes is not the first choice for performance monitoring. As mcbit asked, why do you think it is over generous?  During an activity it is fairly easy to match (close) to the HR zone chart.

  • Thank You. You are inline with my thinking, and expectations. I guess the step change in reporting cause me to question the data and check my baseline parameters. Going from not reporting a vagarous walk to the shops to reporting walking around the house is a notable step change. So wanted to double check everything

  • Intensity minutes are a generally accepted and internationally agreed minimum requirement to maintain basic cardiovascular health...and yes walkind will generate intensity minutes at a rate of 1:1. This is what the UK NHS has to say about intensity minutes.
