I've had it for a year now, and I notice it never charges more then 75% USB connected to charger or desktop.
Is it just getting old, or is there a fix?
It's not a big issue since I can always charge it up daily, just an annoyance.

Yes, that's whatI suspected, thanks. I've done many hard resets to no avail. Will try Garmin support to see what they can do. It's not a really a hassle, so not high priority. I certainly don't want…
Yes, I also have had issues with cables (and mains chargers) so I made sure I used the same cable and mains charger that charged the F5 to 100%. It still only charged the F7 to 75%. But a good warning.
…The charging current from the computer becomes so low that the regulator in the clock switches off.
100% on the clock can only be achieved with a mains charger

Nope. 500mA is enough. ~1C.
Thanks for that. You prompted me to do a bit more testing using my much older Fenix5
The Fenix5 charges to 100% on both the computer and a mains charger
The Fenix7 only charges to 75% on computer and the mains charger using the same cables and charger.
I think there's an issue with the Fenix7.
Any suggestions?
Contact support. Of course, the 500mA of a computer USB port is enough to completely charge the small battery of the watch. The battery has a capacity of about 500mAh and a charge with 1c (500mA) is sufficient.
I have never had problems charging the watches on a computer port in all these years.
Try a hard reset, and if that doesn't improve things, contact Garmin support. I suspect that the watch must be replaced.

I certainly don't want to be without the watch while they investigate (I'm in Sydney, not sure what level of tech support here.)
Just out of interest have you tried a different charging cable? Over the years I've had issues with multiple cables as supplied with Fenix 5-7
