Want to know best way to configure Fenix 7 without needing to wear it 24/7

I do not care about tracking:

  • Sleep
  • Body battery
  • Stress
  • Stamina
  • Training Readiness
  • All day heart rate

So what is the best way to disable the Fenix 7 from the mentioned features?

Primarily, I just want to log/use:

  • Workouts / activities (and their corresponding data like HR, distance, time, cadence, power, etc.)
  • Use GNSS (& maps), ABC, etc: for hikes, runs, kayaking, etc
  • Notifications
  • HR broadcast

As far as algorithmic data, I would like to see VO2 max estimates with correlating fitness age and get training load info.

It would be nice if Garmin offered us an option to choose during setup how we intend to use the watch: all day monitoring or workout logging.

    • Pulse Ox Mode = manual check (instead of all day)
    • Move IQ = off

That alone should magically increase your battery life by a lot.

I have no idea how to turn off all day continuous heartrate tracking and sleep tracking... maybe someone else knows how to do that.

  • You can remove the sections in the Garmin Connect app you're not interested in so that you'll only see the items you want to see. What else is there to configure?Apart from that, I'd say the Garmin watches are made for wearing them 24/7 as certain features like HRV don't even work if you just wear the watch during short activities. I'm wearing all day as the training status, stress, sleep, HRV are quite useful for my training. The HRV values are even being used by professional coaches so random wearing would be no option for me, especially not for a watch in that price range (maybe if you had a cheap fitbit for 100 bucks or something like that).

  • There is no way to turn them off. Just ignore them if you don’t want them.

  • He can't turn them off but he can hide them in the Garmin Connect App...

I t looks like I can use power manager to edit the battery saver control and enable features I want and disable OHR.  The OHR will automatically enable for exercises. Then by using the suggestions by Ben and FrankBMUC I can strip out some other features to get it down to a solid workout tracker just to log workouts.

    Thanks for the help

  • Why does turning off Move IQ improve battery life?

Not something I really use so improving the (already excellent) battery life sounds like a good option.

For me it was about making the watch just something i wear only for workouts/activities.

Battery life was not the concern in my posts. I just didn't want nuisance alerts or feel the need to have to wear the watch 24/7.

  • It's of course up to the customer how he's using the watch, but the design of the new Garmin watches is still made for 24/7 usage, especially all the health functions, sleep etc. - if you just need a watch to track your activities, you don't even need a Fenix but a cheaper model would do in my opinion as you'll not use all the advanced features of it. Bit of a "waste of money" but Garmin won't care ;-)

There are feature sets on the Fenix 7 that I use that cannot be found on another model.

Are you using every feature set on yours? I would argue no one "needs" any of these watches.

Before noticing the splinter in my eye... address the log in yours ;-)

  • Ok, good point ;-) no, I don't use all activities of course but I'd say I use all core functions it has, heart rate, sleep, HRV, stress and all these values only make sense if they are collected 24/7 (to update your training readiness and training suggestions, as all these values are basically linked together). These features were one of the reasons for buying the Fenix 7X in the first place.
