Sea maps for Fenix 7

Hello. Really basic question, but I couldn't find anything similar at any post.

I want to know which maps are you using with your fenix 7 when doing some activities on the sea. Like kayaking or something similar.

I never did that kind of activities and I want to know if there are specific maps for the watch that can help me to navigate on open water.

Depends on what information you need. The built in maps should be fine for kayak navigation, since it's not really critical to know what the ocean floor contours look like, you just need to see where you are in relation to the coastline and it does that fine.

But if you want more advanced data like ocean floor contours and other water features, then a Maps+ subscription might be worthwhile. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/893561

Thanks for your response. I thought that maybe there were some third party open maps with some sea information. But the built in maps are enough for me.

Hope that the wind information that is coming soon to the weather widget of the Fenix 7 can help too in some situations like kayaking.

That was exactly the reason why I once started to develop my own maps.

I was in Crete and wanted to follow the ferry route with a motorboat, as I wanted to head for a port I didn't know well in the morning against the rising sun.

But there was nothing like that in the Garmin maps. Therefore, I adapted the "Freizeitkarte-OSM" to the Fenix.
