I'm going to order an Epix Pro 51mm. Keeping my 7XSS as well, but most likely going to switch to the Epix for 95% of my usage - makes for a nicer display day to day, and substantially better mapping…
In DCR's youtube video he mentioned that he can "sort of" see an improvement in the new MIP display, but he didn't make it sound like the difference was very substantial.
Another point worth mentioning is the lag on the Epix Pro map redraw, can't remember if it was DCR or someone else who pointed this out on their review. Epix has more pixels to redraw than the Fenix 7 ( which also has some lag). With mapping being a key standout for the Garmin devices over competitors, and addition of layers, feels like the current CPU/GPU hardware is due an upgrade soon for both ranges. That and display colours/resolution on Fenix range. Better MIP units do exist
Ya I think it was Desfit who pointed that out in his video. I think probably the slow redraw won't matter in most cases, it's mostly a problem when you're panning the map around manually. There shouldn't be any noticeable redraw lag during normal use (just viewing the map while in motion, not manually panning around on it) because the watch always redraws the map slightly outside the screen border so that it will already be rendered by the time that part of the map needs to appear on the screen.
