Reset default settings issue

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with my Garmin Fenix 7 Solar watch and I'm hoping you can provide some assistance or advice. The watch displays a message saying "Reset default settings." When I choose "yes," the watch restarts but returns to the same screen. If I select "no," it instantly takes me back to the same screen.

I have tried performing a hard reset to resolve the issue, but unfortunately, it hasn't helped. Even after resetting the device, the "Reset default settings" message continues to appear, leaving me in the same situation.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem with the Garmin Fenix 7 Solar watch? If so, please share your experiences and any solutions you have found.

Additionally, if you have any recommendations or tips on how to resolve this issue, please share them with me. It's crucial for me to restore the normal functionality of my watch, as the Garmin Fenix 7 Solar is an essential companion for my sports activities and daily tasks.

  • If you're having difficulty with the watch powered on, try it with the watch powered off.

    How to Reset My Garmin Outdoor Watch

    Reset Default Settings

    This reset will return your watch to the original factory settings, and delete some information such as user profile, personal records, metrics, and some other data.

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.

      • You may need to hold POWER for up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.

    2. Press and hold BACK.

    3. Power on the watch while continuing to hold BACK.

    4. Release BACK once the Reset default settings? message appears.

    5. Select Yes.

    The reset is successful if the watch finishes powering up and goes through initial setup. Try the steps again if initial setup does not appear. Following the reset, place the watch outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.

  • I have the same problem with Fenix 7, but this solution does not help. I still have this infinite loop of restart->restore default settings. Is there any other way to do hard reset of Fenix 7?

    Hey everyone,

    I ran into a common issue where my Garmin Fenix 7 Pro got stuck on the "Reset default settings?" screen — likely due to a faulty or stuck Back/Lap button after a sea swim.

    Whenever I selected either Yes or No, the watch would reboot and return to the same screen, making it unusable.

    But I found a temporary workaround that partially restores functionality:

    Steps:

    1. When you're stuck on the “Reset default settings?” screen, press the Light button (top left).

    2. This brings up the Power menu.

    3. Long-press on the screen (touch and hold) — after a few seconds, it will open the Settings menu.

    4. Navigate to Appearance > Watch Faces.

    5. Choose any watch face and press Apply.

    What happens next:

    The main interface loads without going back to the reset screen.

    You regain partial functionality of the watch:

    heart rate,  sleep tracking, stress levels, all activity tracking ...

    It’s not a full fix — the Back/Lap button still doesn’t work — but this lets you use the core features of your Fenix 7 Pro while waiting for repair.
