Problems with Garmin Fenix 7 & HRM Pro

Hi everyone

I've been using a forerunner 255 with an HRM Pro for about a year.

I've recently upgraded to a F7S SS and am having problems using with the HRM Pro with it. I use the two run dynamics screens when I run, so this shows me when the HRM is paired (if not paired, the run dynamics screens don't appear...).

When starting a run on the F255, I would consistently get a message that said "External HR Connected" - for every single run. I sometimes get this message with the F7, but normally don't.

I have tried unpairing and repairing the HRM Pro at least 10 times, have made sure that the HRM is connected via Ant+, both are on the latest firmware (11.28 & 8.8), but can't seem to get to the bottom of the issue.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Or does anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks for your help

  • I use the HRM-Pro+ with my Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar and, like you, I sometimes get the "External HR Connected" message while other times I do not. However, the HRM-Pro+ has always been connected regardless of the message shown on the watch. Are you sure the HRM-Pro isn't connected on your watch or are you assuming it isn't because you aren't getting the message?

  • Thanks Ian! Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't always get the "external HR connected" message.

The reason that I am unsure of the connection between the watch and the HRM Pro is because sometimes the Run Dynamics pages appear (when the HRM is connected), and sometimes they do not appear (I assume that this happens when there is no connection).

It's not a problem that I have with the F255, as 1) the "external HR connected" message always appears, and 2) the Run Dynamics pages always appear.

I don't know if this is a known bug or if you have any ideas of how to make the connection more consistent

    Thanks

  • You will get this message if external is not connected already with your watch.
I have same situation, sometimes got this message, sometimes don’t and always have all data from the strap in my workout data.

Unfortunately, I don't have any help to offer as I don't use the Run Dynamics data while actually running. Perhaps someone will come along with some tips or advice. Of course, you could always make contact with Garmin support. They are generally really good about helping.
