[Feature request] Estimated Total Time (not ETA/ETE)

Hi,

Sunday i was running an half marathon using Navigation on my Fenix 7X Solar.

Race started at 9:30 am.

After about 1h, fenix says:

ETA 11:11

ETE 41m

I supposed it estimated 1h 41' race time.

Does exist a data field that shows that value?

If not, can be added in the next firmware?

Exist "Estimated Total Distance", so why not add the time one?

In a race or training activity it's more important "Estimated Total Time" than "ETA"

It's more important if i'm going to do a PB, than to know what time of the day the race will finish.

Otherwise, how about the "RACE AN ACTIVITY" feature?

Does it show Estimated Total Time?

  • perhaps you should be looking for a CIQ app or data field rather than trying to use Navigate to get the data you want.  There are a bunch of IQ apps/Fields designed around racing. Peter’s(Race) Pacer is one. It tracks if you are are ahead or behind your goal, shows your estimates finish time and you can correct for running distance remaining based on mile/km markers on the course.  He has a version for those of us with less than great eyes. I’m sure there are others as well but thisbisbthenonlybone I have used. Another option is to “build” your own using Appbuilder from the CIQ store. This provides you the ability to set up unique and dynamic data fields. Bit of a learning curve but very powerful.

  • Thank you for reply.

Instead of install/create third party stuff, why don't we ask Garmin to listen to us?

In this case, nothing new has to be created, it's just all in the watch and needs only to be made visible.

Existing Navigation data fields are ETE, ETA, "Estimated Total Distance" (and many more).

Why can't be added "Estimated Total Time"?

    Watch is just calculating it.

"No controversy in what I say, just observation"

One thing i'm noticing is that everyone is suggesting workaround for a missing that is known and reported in many post in the past.

Who needs it knows it and,

instead of ask for Garmin to solve it (because it's just something that watch is just calculate but don't show in a dedicated data field),

try to find any kind of workaroung to mask the issue.

Please, Garmin, make visible what you calculate in the dark :-D

  • OK but here is my take on this.  By all means put in a feature request.  I really have no idea how many people are asking for this feature (out of the millions of users).  The whole Connect IQ infrastructure was established to allow people to develop and post apps and data fields (and watch faces) for everyone to use, filling a gap in feature sets that, in many cases is a small gap for the majority of users.  Apps like the Race Pacer one I noted can be a very useful tool for racers although I have no idea if it would suit your needs, but it is worth a try and may provide way more functionality than a simple data field addition in the Navigation app.  I'm making the assumption here that you are only using the Navigation App to get the data on finish time based on the course.  Given we don't actually run the exact race distance and GPS is only so accurate, something like Peters (Race) pace will do a far better job.

Bottom line:  I'm not knocking your feature request but I don't fully agree that adding CIQ data fields is a work-around.  They CIQ capability is made for providing additional capability within the Garmin infrastructure to fill gaps like this and is one of the things that makes Garmin so unique.

Edit:  Other thing I'll note is this is a user forum so when you post about a feature request you should expect a number of people trying to offer workarounds. There is a specific support email to put in feature requests.

  • Thanks for reply.

    I sincerely appreciate your post.

About CIQ, i think that should be a good tools for what a watch does not include (or it's bdaly/ugly implemented)

In my opinion, the feature i'm asking it's just included in the watch, but not "visible".

This is why i think it's more logic to ask Garmin to add it then ask/create a third party app (future development? integration? etc etc).

(a firmware update can break everything - v11.28 broke Basecamp integration and no notes in firmware changelog)

Yes, it's an user forum; infact i asked help to find a data field i was not able to find.

Answer were all about using functions that however does not show the information i need (Ahead/behind, set target, etc.)

Users can got used to it to those solutions to bypass the missing data field.

I say that because i'm one of them.

    I have an epix1.

His firmware shifted every track about -40m in every version and Garmin never solved it.

Who noted it, reported it. Issue was always ignored.

I got used to living together with it, correcting manualy when i need.

    Thanks again,

I'll cross fingers that Garmin will listen my words.

  • Hi All,

there is something like that in Connect IQ store, a data field to predict your time on popular race distances: https://apps.garmin.com/pl-PL/apps/e38bc33f-e97d-47d4-9d8c-757d1c5d7c94

I used it in the past and it works correctly.
