Dog Track widget stuck in Map Mode

I connected my Garmin 550 plus to my Fenix 7X and was trying out the different widget features. The last thing I did was change it to MAP mode and now I cannot get out of Map mode. Unfortunately map mode is the least helpful when working with an upland breed. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the unit but every time I open the widget it goes back to map mode and none of the function buttons work. Any ideas? It is kind of frustrating because this is the main reason I purchased the watch.

I'm on software version 11.28. I did call into garmin support and they said it may be fixed with the next firmware update. How often is the firmware updated?

I am sorry there is an issue. What you are experiencing is a software bug accidentally introduced with the v11.28 update. The goal for engineering is to have the issue resolved with the next update. All signs point positive for the next update. The updates are quarterly so the Q2 2023 update will be arriving in the near future. If going by when the past quarterly updates were released, the next software update will arrive in either May or early June.

The updates are quarterly. The goal is for the Q2 2023 update arriving in the near future to address it. No guarantees can be made but all signs are pointing to the issue most likely being resolved.

I am having this same issue, seeing as Q2 of 2023 is closing, when can we expect an update on this issue? Both of these items are too expensive to be having this issue.

This issue was corrected for me a few updates back. I've had 3-4 updates since i posted this.

We are still experiencing this issue. No way back to the compass or other options once we went into the map mode. Any suggestions?

for me the issues appeared only recently, map mode works fine but any attempt to change the view crashes the watch (Fenix 6X sapphire) and makes it reboot. Fully up to date as per now (25/05/2023). The support advice was: update and factory reset. I would be richer than Besos if I had a euro for every time I was totally unneccesarily told to factory reset (support code for "we have no clue") a device for a minor issue resulting in endless time of setting it up again and recovering personal data and no positive effect at all that I would rather have someone tell me if that really helped first.

My watch is now on software version 11.3 yet the dog tracking widget is still stuck in map mode with no way to get out of it. Looks like the quarterly software update didn't fix it. Is it really going to be another quarter until this might get solved? I got this watch specifically for dog tracking and this bug renders it useless. Very, very disappointed with this bug and lack of resolution.

I'm glad I found this thread. At least I have proof that Garmin knew about this problem two years ago.

I have a Fenix 7x pro (v. 20.14) and an Alpha 100 and can confirm that the problem still exists in February 2025
